I hate returning to work after a holiday

Recommended Posts

Is it just me? I absolutely hate returning to work following a holiday. I can't go into my work bag until the morning I return to work. I get on the treadmill on a Monday morning and get off it at the weekend after Saturday football. I am permanently exhausted and frequently compromised with work and kids. After school activities are a complete nightmare and I often have late meetings at work and can't be in two places at the same time.

Also this time I am returning to work without support of OH who is still waiting patiently to return home from Egypt. How do single parents cope? When will I get the shopping done? The bathrooms clean? etc on top of trying to get kids fed before they go out? Tomorrow DS needs to be at choir for 5.20 and he then goes straight onto football training, DD2 finishes orchestra at 5pm, I finish work at 5pm so how can I feed DS before he goes?

Whoever said women could have it all were so wrong!

Poor you :( . I think in the circumstances and until your OH returns, you need to let something go. How about something shop bought or a bit of fast food? DS can eat a sandwich in the car on the way to football! The bathrooms can wait too - don't give yourself unnecessary stress.

Pretty good advice there. Hope everything goes ok and that your hubby gets back soon.

I agree! I absolutely hate returning to work after the holidays. I don't have half the stress you have Ajuff but although I'm quite relaxed now, I know I won't sleep tonight and will be running round like a madhead tomorrow. Can't complain 17 weeks holiday a year though (expecting the backlash now-ha ha ha) xx

I am in the same boat as you, just moaning to DH that I wish I could be at home for the kids. I work full-time, long hours combined with some travel and there are just some days I feel I'm not getting it right at home or at work!

I'd do an online shop and to hell with the bathroom.

Might be worth spending a few quid getting someone in to blitz the house?

You sound exhausted. Could the children help a bit by tidying their rooms and making their their own sarnies?

I'd give your son some cold pasta with something nice on it,to eat in the car, from a plastic box , on the way to footie.

27 days a year in the NHS :boohoo:

(Although on the plus side, I can take them whenever I want which means I can get bargain holidays, and whilst you teachers are going back to work today, I am on leave this week :wink: )

As for advice, its going to be hard with your husband away, so I agree, cut some corners until he comes home, get some takeaways, the kids will probably love it, and its only for a few days. As for the bathrooms, how old are your children, as I would pay them to clean :P

Well I am surprised i had a full nights undisturbed sleep which is unheard of for me the night before returning to work. Always leaves me feeling better i can tell you. Once in work I love my job! Strange isn't it.

I returned home at lunch time to have lunch with DS left home alone. It was lovely just the two of us. He was still in his PJs as he was too scared to go upstairs onto the second floor to get dressed! Poor boy! He was happy enough when I left though!

I left work early leaving DD2 at orchestra and prepeared a really quick chicken, broccoli, curry bake with cheese and a baked potato before heading back to collect. DS ate and got to choir on time he's on dishes later when he returns. meanwhile I'm taking half an hour out to write a shopping list and will shop before DS finishes football. OH is possibly returning to Belfast tonight if all goes to plan so things are looking up. I just need a large slice of chocolate cake and I'm pleased I got through the day.

Thank you for all your support. :D

Oh yes! Dishes, sheets and dishwasher. I am thinking of introducing bathrooms and laundry soon especially if DH is going to be away more frequently over the summer. I doubt they'll be pleased.

DD1 came home from her first day back at her old school (after rejecting her beautiful private school with lots of opportunities but that's another story) and vaccumed the front room, tidied her room and did both flute and piano practice all before I came in from work. Tells me she has no homework and is clearly right! She should have had three sets of work on a Monday from lovely school. . she is not challenged at this school at all!
