BERTIE MCSQUIRTY
we already have hens, and a walk in run - and yes he does love them - (probably not to the extent that i do), but then he's been brought up with chickens, and they aren't such a novelty to him as they are to me. but i just cant help seeing little area's of the garden that would benefit from another run here and there
jnb
Mrs JB held out for ages before suddenly deciding while taking our little lad round a farm that we should get an ark ... now! Not sure what changed "sometime, maybe, do we have the time / space ?..." into "now" but it did.
Roobaloo
My OH said no to chickens for years...mainly because he's scared of birds!!! I always ask him if I buy anything but that's out of respect/fairness as I only work part-time...so I buy my animal feed, he pays all our bills!! I had to master the "puppy-dog eyes" face to get the girls!! It took a long time and I was convinced I'd never get them...then suddenly he relented and said "when the house is sorted, we'll look into it"....I then badgered him to let me get the Eglu early to "spread costs!" (and to up the commitment from him! ) ...and he let me!! Then I asked if we could go to Thornes Poultry to have a look and we saw the two girls (he spotted Suki...she was the only one with that amount of brown on her and I saw Toph, again, she had more white down her breast than any of the other magpies!!) ...the puppy-dog eyes switched on and we left there with two chickens!! According to our "agreement" I still shouldn't have them yet!!
ValerieR
Full-grown Rottweiler eyes work better with my husband, I find .....
ladyjulian
Hmmm... chickens were my idea, but I was only going to get three. Beloved Cohab talked me into four (she didn't have to try very hard). Then the quail were her idea, but she built Chateau Quail and the brooder out of s"Ooops, word censored!" wood and chicken wire, including the special infrared bulbs for them, so all I have to do is go and chirrup at them, feed and water them, she'd already done all the construction work. Also she threatened a flock of rhea. Quail make less of a mess of the veg beds.

captaincollins
LOL I read this and think I am very lucky to have a husband who will pretty much let me do anything I want basically we have a I just go and do it relationship, as long as he has a roof over his head, a few beers in the fridge and a nice meal every so often he is very happy! he really doesnt care. I did mention the hens though anyway he loves going outside to collect the eggs! he is up so early he steals all the fun & joy from me!!! and named 'his' chicken Fred and always digs worms from her and then the others when I complain he is being unfair! Janty
Originally it was hubby's idea to get chickens when he saw a piccy of a mark 1 eglu in his gardening magazine. Then we talked about it on and off and he convinced himself that it was a bad idea. He grew up with chickens, ducks, geese, donkeys, etc. and hated it when the birds flapped and the males attacked him. It took me a bit of persuading but now he's laid back about it. I broached the subject of another quail run yesterday and he said that Emma's idea of roofing the entire garden would be cheaper. He was laughing at the time so I've taken that as a maybe. ValerieR
My OH just said to me "I'm not going to come home from work one day and find a goat, am I? I mean, I'd just like to know what to expect" I reassured him that I have no plans for a goat! (Although never say never!)
oneyolktoanother
hubby says no.. Him Indoors knows better than to say the word 'no' to me. He knows I'd do it twice, with k"Ooops, word censored!"s on.

Luvachicken
Never give up. The closest I got to chickens was having some painted on some tiles by my hob. Oh, and chickens on my kitchen blind, utensil holder, drinking glasses etc etc. That was in 2003 !!!! I went to a pet shop one day and saw some baby tortoises and asked if I could have them and was told "if it stops you having chickens" I didn't have the tortoises but then years later, 6 in fact, a special birthday came along and the cube and the chickens were the only thing I really wanted.....and I got my wish. ValerieR
and asked if I could have them . Good grief I must be a real virago! I never "ask" my OH anything - I just do it! Poor man.
Debby Tutton
Hi My tacktic was a bit naughty. I told my hubbie that I wanted a goat. I left the computer on goat web sites, got books from the library about goats and bourght a mag which described the keeping of goats. I went on and on about it until he was really stroppy. Then one day I suggested, as we are a partnership, we compromise on an Eglu and 2 hens. Voila ! (I now have 4 hens as he loves them as much as I do and the fresh eggs are wonderful )
