Luvachicken
So far my free time since finishing work has been taken up with a bad back last week and lots of dopey drugs to make me better and then this week has been for looking after my son who has managed to catch Scarlet Fever and has been very poorly. Then when I get 5 mins to come on here everything has moved about. Can chickens get Scarlet Fever ? Evie has been very quiet and not doing much chicken stuff just sitting in her favourite spot resting . Also, how can you tell who is not laying an egg ? I haven't had 3 eggs for ages, sometimes I get 2 , quite often just 1 and also a few "softies" I think you call them but how do I know who does what ? jellykelly
My son had scarlett fever too recently. My nan (bless her) suggested that he caught the illness from those 'dirty chickens you keep'. She hasn't even seen them!! With regards to who laid which eggs, someone on here suggests that you put food colouring around your hens vents. Obviously a different colour for each hen. You'll then know who did what - and I bet they look pretty when lined up in an egg box
chickyhazel
That sounds like a good idea.
Lavenders_Blue
Evie has been very quiet and not doing much chicken stuff just sitting in her favourite spot resting . My girls have been doing a lot of sitting around too. Dorothy has taken to just flopping down on her tummy for half an hour or so at a time, not dustbathing, not sunbathing, just resting apparently! I think as we have had so much sunshine recently (okay not today) the ground is probably quite warm so it must feel nice on their tums to have a sit down
Luvachicken
Thanks for all that, I'm glad that other chickens seem to be having rests too. As for whose egg is whose I might try the food colouring idea - I suppose you'd have to put it on just before bed time?
BeckyBoo
I would LOVE to see pictures of you, at dusk, painting each chickens bottom with food colouring! The neighbours would DEFINITELY know you'd gone barmy BeckyBoo
