madamding
I'm new here, I posted the other day asking for some advice and I just wanted to say I got my first four ladies yesterday! Thank you for the advice. We brought home four lovely Goldine (aka Gingernut Rangers) and I am in love with them already. Three of them are the friendliest things ever, they were eating out of my hand as soon as we got home, however the other is a bit crazy and doesn't come too close, hoping she warms up to us a bit! They are about 17 weeks old. I'm sure I'll be asking lots of novice chicken-related questions however my husband has had chickens before and his mother who lives me is very experienced with chickens so hopefully we'll be okay. I barely slept last night thinking that Mr Fox might come (We live in a rural area with lots of foxes) but we've done the best we can to try and make sure they are secure! madamding
Thanks everyone, I'll put up some pictures later. Was very proud of them last night as it was their second night and they went to bed all on their own - I thought it might take longer! Missed them today as my mother-in-law will let them out on Tuesdays & Wednesdays when I am at work. Will see them when I get home though! Saw a young fox on the driveway last night I was listening out all night even though they should be secure.
Seagazer
Congratulations on your girls. As long as you are aware that you have foxes and don't take any chances you should be fine.
madamding
Thanks, I think the plan is that they will mainly be in the WIR because I have to go out during the day a couple of times etc and I don't want to leave them unattended for foxy loxy to get them. We've had three foxes sitting on our lawn before in the middle of the afternoon! We've tried to make the run as fox proof as we can but I guess there's only so much that can be done. scarlettohara
Congratulations I think you are very sensible to leave them in during the day - foxes are horrid

madamding
When my mother-in-law kept chickens here a few years ago we also had a polecat attack It got into the hen house somehow, might have been in there already when they were locked up and killed the lot of them Here is my blog that has photos of my girls on http://athomewithmrsm.blogspot.com
Chicken Shirl
I see what you mean about Edna she does have a wild look about her. I'm sure she will settle down just fine, and be eating from your hand like the others. Nice blog.

madamding
Thank you. I've come home from work tonight and Edna was a little friendlier tonight. Damn chickens are too friendly though, I can't get in the run because they rush to the door and hover around my feet!
Chicken Shirl
Only want to know if you have anything nice for us to eat Chicken mummy?
chickyhazel
The good thing about being rural is theres plenty of other things for Mr Fox to eat, whereas in cities theres not much other than your bakyard chickens!
