I was suprised to hear from a pet store that they'd been told to just stock the Eglu Go and not bother with the clssic as it's being fazed out!

This may be old news to many, and while I was confused as to why they introduced the Go at such a similar price to the classic, it didn't occour to me that it would be a replacement

I saw the Go "in the flesh" for the first time last week and like many comments I've seen on the forum wasn't impressed. I was reassured the plastic is very strong and durable but it just doesn't seem as substantial as the classic, and I don't like the single door opening, plus the shape just isn't as pleasing to the eye....

I was also suprised to hear that whilst the classic is made in the UK, the Go is made in China. Now I know that Omlet is a business and needs to make money but this kind of spoiled the "4 young guys came up with a great idea and made good" image I have in my head :(

Maybe Redwing, he did seem confident that this is what the Omlet sales rep had told him, but I admit he could have been wrong. He said it was something to do with lots of compliants about the fixing system which holds the lid of the eglu on?? Haven't actually got my eglu yet - this week hopefully :D - so can't comment on whether that's likely

Torrin, I am not sure where this pet store has sourced it's information....

I can however assure you and everyone else that Eglu Classic is not being discontinued nor was the Eglu Go ever designed to replace the Eglu Classic... It's a Classic and it will always take pride of place in the Omlet Range and it's the only Eglu which is also available as a Rabbit and Guinea Pig House which can be converted between this use and for chickens...

The Eglu Go is the new version of the Eglu Classic which we launched in 2005. The Eglu Go is the same size as the Classic so is suitable for upto 4 chickens. In addition we have listened to the feedback from Eglu owners and included several improvements that make the Eglu Go even better instead of the large lid which people found heavy to lift on and off the Eglu Go has a lighter rear panel which gives access to the inside. This is also easier to lock thanks to the central handle.

Although the Eglu Classic is easy to clean, people wanted to be able to remove the entire base for convenient hosing off. This is now possible with the Eglu Go as the dropping tray, roosting bars and nest box all slide out so that they can completely removed for cleaning.

Another benefit of the Eglu Go is the run. This is made of the same secure weld mesh as the Classic but now the run door can be placed on the side as well as on the end of the run. This gives more flexibility when deciding where to position the Go, for example against a fence. A run extension will also be available in due course for the Eglu Go. Another exiting possibility is changeable covers. All the coloured parts of the Go are designed to be removable so you will be able to change the look of your Go whenever you want.

The Eglu Go is manufactured in China, which we will not deny, this was solely down to financial reasons due to the increase of manufacturing costs through the UK recession which hit all businesses very badly. The Eglu Go was designed in the UK and still very much holds all of the core values that Omlet has strived to achieved with the product range it has to offer. The Eglus Classic, Pet and Cube, and the Beehaus, continue to be made in the UK, as are the runs, including the run for the Go.

I trust this has allayed everyones fears over the Eglu Classic, maybe it would be best in future before posting to the forums you checked with Omlet HQ to acquire all the facts beforehand.

Enjoy the remainder of your weekend.

Phew, thanks for that, Quin! I saw the 'Go' for the first time last weekend, at Grand Designs, and while I can see the advantages - in particular having the run door on the side - I love my Classic and wouldn't want to part with it.

The good thing is, the Classic will probably outlast me, as long as Omlet keep making spares for it!

Good news :D

Thank you for the response Quin.

Apologies, wasn't meaning to spread a rumour or cause a problem  , was just suprised at what I heard.

Will pm Quin the details of who I spoke to, as it seems a shame he's misdirecting potential Omlet customers with incorrect information.

Glad to hear they are all still being made.

I have Cube and a Classic, and I'm shortly going to order a Go as well.

Of all of them, I prefer the Cube, but all 3 have their uses. We have the Eglu to house our chicks between 5 weeks and about 10 weeks before they go to the Allotment; it also acts as a hospital, a quarantine centre, and temporary housing while introducing new girls.

We're now hatching so many chicks that we find ourselves needing ananother something. I'd love a Lilac Cube, but it won't suit our purpose. I'd quite like a Lilac Eglu, mainly because I like the Lilac. But for chick purposes, we think the layout of the Go will better suit our needs. It;ll be easier to keep the floor area clean and hosed down, and, most of all, we can choose where to have the door so we will be able to have it part way down the run - making the little chickies much easier to catch than at present. If they did it in Lilac, Orange or Purple I'd have bought it already.

So I think they all have their place.

And I'm pleased I've written this as it's made me realise I might as well get on and order it, rather than keep hankering after a Lilac something.....

 What a lovely post, I really enjoyed reading it, you have it all worked out. I also like my Cube best, but the other styles are useful too, and the Go sounds very practical for your needs.

Definitely understand the importance of ordering something lilac.
