MadMitch
All my chickens eat exactly the same things and the colour of their yolks is very similar with the exception of one and her yolk is always very pale, hardly any yellow colour at all, worse than anything you would ever by in a supermarket. Does it mean anything, could she have an underlying illness I'm not aware of or does this happen sometimes?
Janepie33
I think it just happens sometimes. My 5 all eat the same things and their yolks seem to vary in shade from week to week. Do you feed yours anything green, including grass? I think it is green things that make the yolk yellow.
Christian
Dark green veg like cabbage, kale and spinach is said to enhance yolk colour.
meezers
Just wondering if it's one of your dorkings laying the egg with the pale yolk ? My Dorkings yolk is always pale - maybe it goes with the white shell ?
MadMitch
No it is not my Silver Dorking it is an Ixworth. It is very strange they are outside in the garden all day and they also have greens in their WIR.
chickencam
I find that the yolk colour varies with how many green they have had, but also some of them just lay much richer coloured eggs than others. My Isa Brown lays the darkest yellow and they are by far the tastiest, she is however the tattiest bird you ever did see, poor thing Mine are getting loads of lettuce and radish leaves at the moment and that is giving us lovely eggs.
