Warning about glugs

Recommended Posts

Very very sad today, the children and I came home to find that one of our 1 wk old chicks had drowned in the glug that was on the side of the eglu for its mum. The glug was well above the height of that the chicks could reach/jump, I can only presume that it had climbed onto its mum's back and some how got knocked into it when she stood up, I have no other things in the run for it to have got any higher on. :( The glug is no longer in the run and mum will have to drink from the chicks little water tower.

We all feel really sad that its short life ended in such a horrid way, and just want to warn others so it doesn't happen again.

So sorry, RIP little chick. After accidentally squashing one of mine a week ago, I am paranoid now and spotting new dangers everyday. Mine are just over 2 weeks old now and can jump up at least 6 inches,I've covered all the little gaps in the partition up to 18 inches high now- just incase a suicidal chick tries to get in with the big girls ! I swear they are more of a worry than toddlers :o

Yes, I probably could have used my super glug from the cube, although I'm not sure the door frame would stand the weight and I would have worried it might fall off and squash them - everything is fraught with risk! I won't use any water container with an open top again with chicks, as I don't want to run the risk - so it is the old style waters until they are MUCH bigger! Many thanks for everyone's comments it has helped me feel less guilty
