Luvachicken
I live really near the air show and the planes love to practice just above my roof I just wondered what the best advice would be for the chickens as it is so noisy when the planes come. Or shall i just wait and see how they get on ?
meezers
If you have that many planes , I'm guessing the chooks will eventually get used to them. They may get stressed the first few times and stop laying in protest, but doubt it would be a long term thing. We have hot air balloons taking off from the field next door to us, they fly low right over the coop. The first time it happened, the chooks werre hilariously hysterical - running in circles shouting' don't panic , don't panic' Now they all jump up on the highest perch to get the best view
scrambledhead
Hello, I live on the air show flight path too! I hadn't thought about the girls, oh dear. Possibly not many egss that week then
figarogir1
I live near Southend airshow which was last weekend. The girls looked up at the loud planes and went in their run when the really loud ones were about but it didn't really bother them hopefully yours will be the same
sjp
I live under the flight path for Birmingham airport it's the last turn before they enter the glide slope. when the engines are at full reverse thottle the only time my girls take any notice is when the 777's come over then they watch them until they are out of sight.even the police helicopter doesn't bother them but we live on a noisey estate so that might help
Lavenders_Blue
I live a mile from an RAF base and we have harriers flying over all the time. The girls have never so much as batted an eyelid, even when they first came. I guess it's like bonfire night, we all worry about houw our chooks will be, but actually they don't seem to bother at all!
Luvachicken
Thanks for all that, I thought that they probably would be ok. I'll look forward to seeing their little antics when the planes come
jlo
We are not far from you and we also have the chinooks from Odiham coming really low over the garden. We first got our chooks two years ago just before the last Farnborough show. There was no real problem so I am sure that, as others have said, they will be fine. Forge Cottage
Ours even graze on the grass in front of the lawnmower - but show them a mop and they're off! I reckon after two days of jet practice they will be used to it, but you might see a break in egg production... Our Peggy laid her last egg on Nov 5th. Good luck!
