Guest
Obviously I must have not ticked the box somewhere for my telephone information to not be passed on Does anyone else get these Debt companies ringing asking if you have lots of debts etc etc. We get them about 3-4 times a week. To begin with we just answered and put the phone to one side and thought we would just run them up a bill but they ring all times of the day now. Have just been on the BT site in future I am going to be attempting to stop them To block an unwanted number who is a pest :immediately after the call dial 14258 and at the prompt press the star**key twice. I only hope it works as despite asking them to not phone us they just dont listen indie
Charlottechicken
Had one last night, he sounded American, with an Indian name He knew my name and was quoting the Ministry of Justice. He wanted to know if I had a mortgage, loan or credit card taken out before 2007. I lied and said no, I live an alternative lifestyle, which threw him so I might say that to all my cold callers now I think the call was international which is how they can still cold call, as I am registered with TPS and FPS, for what it's worth. Guest
Snap Today the number came up on my phone and then when I asked him for his number he gave me some rubbish that he couldnt give me the information. We were going to tell them we had millions of pounds worth of debt. They told us they were acting on behalf of the governments debt scheme?? Perhaps I should get them to ring westminster, it could be their biggest client! indie
C&T
I love trying to wind cold callers up! I know they are only doing their job, but what a job! My favourate was from a company trying to sell me a conservatory. They had been ringing loads, and I had had enough! I had a really good conversation with the poor guy - lasted ages - I asked loads of questions - and then I asked him how did they support the conservatory as I live in a 3rd floor flat? Would it be wooden stilts or something, and do you think the downstairs neighbours would mind? He put the phone down on me - no idea why!! Didn't get any more calls though either
Chucky Mama
I pass the phone to my children who wind them up something awful. I once told someone offering a loan that I would have to ask my husband when I next visited him in prison. I told them he was in prison for credit card fraud. They asked when he would be out so that they could phone back

I like the prison visit, I will try that one. indie
Chucky Mama
It's funny when the kids speak to them as they say ' can I speak to your mum or dad' and they say something like 'what are you trying to say, I have an unusually high voice, I am really quite offended' , then the poor person on the phone doesn't know what to say
fluffyfeet
When OH picks up, as it's usually my name they've got, he's says 'oh yes, she's been looking forward to you ringing, I'll just go and get her' and puts the phone to one side for a few mins, then goes back and says 'she's just coming, hold on', down again and then 'just a bit, she's parking the tractor in the top field', etc etc. They are very useful though if you are really hacked off with something/had a really bad day/it's 'that' time/you really need to vent - they get it - both barrels, and you don't have to feel guilty afterwards Dawn x

It cut our nuisance calls by 80% within a month. That said, they can't stop the survey calls we get now. Or the one I get every year from Limoge asking if I want to go to a champagne reception for them to sell me loads of pottery (not that they say that last bit). C&T - love your answer to the conservatory company. Brilliant!
Chook n Boo Mum
My fave for the conservatory salesbods is "if you can convince the National Trust that a conservatory/fascias/soffits etc etc etc are a good idea, then of course we'd be interested, we never have so good luck!".....they usually say goodbye at that point ....we live in a NT covenanted area & can't do anything structural or asthetic (sp?) without their say-so !! We are registered with the preference agency, whatever it's called, so don't get many of theses calls now.....most of them are sequential diallers, which you will never stop I don't think Sha x
Alis girls
I just tell them I'm out and that I'm the nanny or cleaner.
Lavenders_Blue
I usually just say "I'm sorry, this is a business phone line" and they end the call straight away. I don't usually bother explaining that it's 'business' as in 'none of yours'

theherd123
I get lots of the recorded messages ones! I answer the phone and say hello and then the message kicks in - so so irritating and they happen about 5 times a day. Will the 14258 prompt work with these do you think?
