My dog is eating my chickens poo?!

Recommended Posts

I don't have a dog but I have 2 cats that want nothing to do with our 4 hens ... however, my next door neighbour's cat seems fascinated with our chicken poo and has been known to scoff it down only to return home to (thankfully!) her kitchen and sick it up all over her floor - lovely!! Obviously I have to offer some lovely home produced eggs as an apology!!

My chickens ate my cats sick the first day I let them free range - until I hurriedly covered it with a bowl and they were NOT happy. :vom: So much for keeping them off meat!

Please forgive me as this was a week in to having them and I didn't realise they can be a revolting as my cats :shameonu: I now make sure that they don't get the opportunity.

I've had them 4 weeks and they are fab :D . All are now laying although Betty seems to lay a giant double egg every couple of days at the moment (I'll post pics) but doesn't seem to mind. Does anyone know why this is?

I have had my chickens for two weeks and I must admit I had no idea how much they pooed! They also seem to save their yuckiest for when I let them out of the run to free range. I think you dog owners are very lucky as I would love to have something to hoover it up rather than walk around the garden with a scoop and a plastic bag!!

My dog is a nightmare and will do anything to get to a poo and is then often sick !!!

He also loves their pellets too and drives me made when he gets into the WIR helps himself to poo and pellets and is then violently sick in the playroom never outside !!! :vom::vom::vom::vom::vom::vom:

Normal behaviour apparentley !

I use a cat litter scoop to flick it into a trug, it then goes into the compost.

I dont have a composter yet but it is on my list of 'things to do'. It seems to be an essential item if you keep chickens! The trouble is I dont have much of a garden to use it on! :(
