Noisy Chicken

Recommended Posts

I know this isn't a good thing to do, but....when mine start getting really loud (I'm in a city with neighbors right up close on all sides) and it goes on and on and on I do throw some seed to them. They get quiet and start pecking. I don't do it often, only in severe cases, otherwise they'll come to expect treats if they get loud.

I have found that one of those rodent pet balls that you can fill with treats, filled with corn and mealworms and turned down to the smallest setting keeps my girls quiet and happy for ages...and in terms of keeping possession of the ball, Kipper could give certainly give the current England squad a run for their money

Like maryeadrian I sprinkle some bird seed or corn around the run and that keeps them busy, otherwise, because I too worry that they will start yelling for treats, I either change or top up the bedding in their coop, or sprinkle that or compost or anything on the floor of the run. It interrupts their shouting and they usually forget to go back to it.

I shout at mine to shut up from the landing window ! Usually works and I love to see them crane their necks up to see where my voice is coming from !!

I try that - but it never works... :wall: I seem to just add to the noise!

I have to go down and open the back door. I don't have to go out the door - just open it! Then everything is OK again apparently...

my four hens are very very noisy early in the morning - 5am to be precise. I wouldnt mind but they have open access to their run, with food and water available, but I still have to go down and say good morning and tell them to go and eat their breakfast. After a couple of minutes they wander off and start scratching about as much as to say "good, we have got her up now we can get on with the day"! I let two of them sleep out for a few nights, until they got very noisy on Saturday at 4.45am :shameonu: . I was so worried about the neighbours that I got up and spent about 15 minutes in the run just being there, which seemed to satisfy them!
