cartref1518
After laying last week my Miss Pepperpot had a white bottom. It was an obvious attraction to attract pecking from the Gingernut so some feathers are missing. The area is not infected. So what caused the white mess? Should we use anti-peck spray? Any truth in the rumour that vinegar in the water stops the pecking problem?
The Dogmother
The white could possibly be urates - has she passed any loose poos? I'd spray her bottom with either purple spray to make it less visually attractive, or anti-peck spray. If she has a loose bum, then add some Avipro to their water and feed them Bokashi Bran in live yoghurt.
cartref1518
Thank you Claret. Decided to spray her with anti-peck. My wife sprayed so I stink of it !! May try the bran if things don't get better. Josie Rosie
Plum
Apart from what Claret says I'd give her a wash then you would know if she is still producing white droppings/urates. Just check that the white is not offensive which could be a sign of infection -vent gleet a fungal infection.
The Dogmother
One of mine (a pekin with very fluffy knickers) often has dirty panties, there's nothing wrong with her gut, just that her very fluffy underthings get in the way. No other chicken would dare to peck her bum though!
