coco
I have just been talking to my 14 yr old son about chickens and he said normal people don't talk to their chickens just me and people on Omlet. Is he right or are we just all mad.
Roobaloo
Well, we're all mad but I don't know a single pet owner that doesn't talk to their pets!! ...sure beats talking to yourself...!

figarogir1
My neighbours probably think I am mad as I bok bok to my chickens but I get a more intelligent reply from them than from my teenage sons
LuckyChickenLover-
Of course I talk to my girls! Pets are for company aren't they? Plus, pets will listen without answering back
welovemarmite
i read the subject post and thought, you called? I talk in English to my chickens, but my neighbour comes round and talks in chicken to them. My cats are also spoken to as if they were my children... LuckyChickenLover-
This is probably really random, but does anyone find that when you talk to your girls they repeat what you say. Not in perfect English obviously, but mine repeat the same number of syllables .

Mercedes55
Mine don't seem to say anything We do talk to them, I just hope the neighbours don't hear us as we sit there crouched on the ground asking them how they are
Seagazer
One of mine always seems to repeat the same amount back to me. Mind you I do it after she has a bok at me too. I love having a chicken chat although I do talk in English to them too. I like the thought of being bilingual
chickenopolis
My girls talk back to me as well, especially first thing in the morning. We have a regular visitor to the garden in the shape of a big fat Pigeon, which I have nicknamed "Frank". So, whenever I let the girls out we have a discussion about Frank. He waddles around as though he should have a raincoat on, and be selling watches from the inside of his mac, like a birdy version of Del Boy saying "hello ladies...can I interest you in anything.." Me and the ladies have a chat about Frank and I tell them not to buy anything from him, as it is probably knock off and you know he is a "con-pigeon". I tell them that they won't get their money back! They have been know to chase him out of the garden, so I think they are listening to me...... Oops, I've said too much.... I'll get me coat!!! Patricia W
My cockerel has a " word" for our cat and a different one for the dog. Mind you, I think they are both 4 -lettered so not for repeating on a family forum! Tricia
Janina Butterworth
I talk to my girls all the time, I really don't care what the neighbours think! I speak English and Chicken! I find talking to them makes me very calm indeed, especially when they are sat at my feet on the grass. I had a stressful day yesterday and letting the girls out for an hour for a chat made all the difference. Ariadne even sat next to me on the bench, I think it was the tub of mealworms that she wanted more than talking to me though!

Sherbet
We are all quite mad arn't we, but hey why not talk to our chickens, I love mine a little more each day, and worry if they are ok at home while i'm at work. I can't wait to get home at 5pm to let them out & have a good chicken chat lol!! Do any of yours get eggsited, my bossy one Molly goes to the top of the garden, and lunges forward & does a hop, skip & jump and tries to take off, it is soooo funny, must film it one day! had them a week now, and they are my favouite babies! chickenopolis
I think we all worry about them when we are at work and the Omlet website keeps us sane until we can have some "chicken love" when we get home. I often wonder what ours do during the day Flo has a limp at the minute which she got on Saturday morning. I think they were in the Cube on Friday Night, were dreaming about Superman overnight, and she thought that she would try and see if she could fly. I did tell her that if she had put her knickers ontop of her feathers she might not have flown into the run and caused me hours of worry since.. One thing that does mystify me tho! During the winter when they went to bed, they had muddy feet. When they came down in the morning their feet and nails were bright and clean and shiny! I said that they must have paid a lot for the lady from the nail bar to come in and visit them overnight. I imagined her coming in, with Flo and Glo sitting back, headscarves on, offering as much gossip as they could to the "nail bar lady" whilst she buffed and cleaned their feet. I've even asked them outright if they get a visit at night, but they are not letting on
