Good old fashioned service!

Recommended Posts

I need some Ukadex and found an old 2009 post which recommended http://www.bowdenandknights.com/s3/Poultry-Health.html as a good place to get it. At the time they didn't take card payments but sent out a good old fashioned invoice with the dispatched goods.

Well, I'm pleased to report that they still do - I don't know if they are the cheapest but thought such service and faith in people needed encouraging.

Anyone else come across some good old-fashioned service lately?

I got a tarp made for my run from Adam's Tarpualins. No website, no credit cards just good old fashioned service. I wanted a tarp made to measure, so I phoned them - the chap was a delight to speak to and really helpful and then I e-mailed (they are creeping into the 21st century  ) the measurements. The tarp came quickly, the invoice followed a month or so later

Just to report that my Ukadex has arrived - less than 24 hours after ordering. I'm assuming the invoice will arrive separately as it's not in the package.

I can faintly smell it through the layers of packaging.. and I notice I can use it for tail biting in pigs - anyone?? Now where are those marigolds?

This isn't so much about good old fashioned service, just about good service. I needed to get some more dried mealworms as I am nearly out of them and spent some time yesterday comparing the prices, which varied enormously.

I bought 1kg for £12.50 from here which I thought was quite a good price.

They came today and they emailed me a total of 3 times since I placed my order yesterday and they even gave me a 1hr delivery window which I thought was pretty good these days :D

I just thought I'd update you. I still haven't had an invoice from this company for the Ukadex and so I phoned them this morning, just to check I hadn't missed it. Anyway, a very friendly person told me not to worry- I'd probably get it by the end of this week. Not sure of the business sense of this, but it is so nice to be trusted.

I guess the plus for them is that I'll certainly choose them over other suppliers and I'll tell others how good they are- just like this!

I called sewingmachinesdirect today. I bought a new machine in January and a few weeks ago realised it wasn't working properly. I put off calling because I thought it was going to be really awkward. Well I called this morning at just after 11am. After patiently checking things with me, I got off the phone at 11.40 and my machine was collected by Citylink at 3pm. How is that for service? I just hope I get it back as quickly

sewingmachinesdirect get even better. I got a call today to say they didn't have the part needed to fix my machine so would I like a new one or to pay a bit extra and get an upgrade. I've decided I deinitely want the upgrade because mine was just a beginners machine so I'm busily looking to see which one to buy. If I manage to choose tonight it will be delivered Thursday

Our local Waitrose always provides a good service and they are especially good if you have had a problem. I bought an orchid Sat as a small present for a friend who was going on holiday Mon. When I pulled it out of the cellophane container to remove the price I realised the leaves where hanging on by a tiny amount and would fall off with the slightest movement which would probably lead to the orchid dying quite soon. So I returned it yesterday showed them the problem and explained that as my friend had now gone on holiday I'd prefer a refund rather than a replacement. The lady apologised and said it would be a double refund and handed 2x the cost of the orchid straight over ! :D

We have also had good service from a sewing machine company.

My ED has been working and saving like mad for a new machine, she bought a Singer Futura embroidery machine from Singerdirect, Copper sewing machines. She ordered it at 11.40 on Sunday night and it arrived at 7am Tuesday morning.

She has a 30 day trial so I just hoping that if she decides that it is not for her they are equally good. :anxious:

I'm not sure if this counts as old-fashioned but certainly good service. After flying from LA to New York a couple of days ago I was looking forward to grabbing something to eat and drink (American Airlines don't provide food on their domestic flights, despite it being 6 hours...). I had about $4 in change but thought that would be ok as I've paid for most things on my card.

On arrival, it had been 8hours since I'd eaten and a two hour wait for my connecting flight to Manchester. I decided the best option was to pick up things from Starbucks but a sign told me that the card machines were down :( I looked at other options but all places had the same sign - all the card machines were down in the airport. I was gutted and starving but thought i might have just enough for a coffee back at Starbucks. I had to ask the actual price as the ones published don't include tax and I needed to copper up.

A really brusk woman behind the counter asked me why I was asking and was I going to buy anything. I politely explained that I had to see if I had enough money as the machines were down. She then asked what I wanted to buy. I said that I had intended on buying food and drink but would buy a small coffee as I thought that I could pay for that. She said "I didn't ask you what you could afford, I asked what you wanted to buy" and insisted that I had food and a large drink all for the handful on change I had.

Thought that was really good of her.
