Why so hard to sell cockerels???

Recommended Posts

Its simple there are too many cockerels and not as many breeders

Most breeders will keep a cockerel or two from last years hatch to breed from the following year

Breeders that breed for show want a good example of the breed and rarely bring in fresh blood

Sadly its part of the hatching experience - you often have to cull the cockerels

try the Practical Poultry forum to advertise them free to good home - that section is over-run with cockerels at this time of year though :( also try city farms, childrens farm parks etc..

Whatever you do dont send them to auction without pairing them with a female

he is beautiful!

however we always cull our boys when we hatch eggs! we made that decision before buying the incubator (as chief broody hen always gets bored when we give her real eggs!) let them grow big enough and have them for dinner!

also no one wants them as they dont lay eggs!

where did you get him from?

OMG he is gorgeous! I'd have had one off you - but funny enough, I'm collecting a Millefleur cockerel on Sunday that I've reserved.

I've said to hubby how much I love my cockerels & would love to have a cockerel rescue. But somehow it just wouldn't work as I'd be a very very popular lady!

There is something about cockerels though - I love all mine to bits. I have mine for breeding purposes, but they really are well loved pets too. I love the way they look after their ladies, are true gentleman & their stunning colours.

Little Bingo is about as tall as a pint glass & tries to look big & macho, but he is so soppy when you scoop him up. It's funny.

Stunning cockerels you have there!
