Heidi-Hi
Hi. I got my girls last Sunday from an Omleteer selling her cube and girls (all POLs and older). I've been treating the red mite, (think I'm winning), and their combs seems a bit redder today. Also wormed them. Should I expect any eggs yet? The lady I got them from said she was getting 5 plus a day Should I perhaps perk them up with some poultry spice, and if so, I see on the tin you have to mix it in mash. I've got layers pellets. Can I mix it with that? Am I just too eager?
Plum
Redmite will slow them down. I put some warm water in the pellets and stir a spoon of poultry spice into it and any other stuff they fancy like a dollop of cod liver oil, some baked egg shells ground up, mixed corn left over cooked veg etc and they woof it down. Guess moving house and new environment is a bit stressful even if it's a good move so sure you'll get some soon.
karlotta
I 'rescued' 4 girls on Saturday (Salmon Fav, Welsummer, Jubilee Orp and RIR banty) from someone who said they no longer had time to look after them (looked more like couldn't be bothered TBH!) who were living in a poo filled concrete run with nothing to scratch in etc. I'm still worming (ending on sunday) and they are certainly moulting. I've had just two eggs (I suspect from the same girl). I've also now put them on Lifeguard tonic. I'm sure mine (and yours) will start laying properly soon - new house, new surroundings and for your girlies redmite must all contribute to a whole lot of stress so they probably just need a bit of time and TLC. Heidi-Hi
My husband has phoned every morning from work with 'any eggs yet'? He is driving me mad! I told him to stop pressurising me and the girls, and that they will lay when they feel better, so there..,. Karlotta, I hope your girls respond to some TLC soon too. Thanks for the advice x
The Dogmother
Do you know when they were last wormed? I'd worm them with Flubenvet, then repeat it 3 weeks later if you don't know when they were last wormed. As Plum has said, they will often eat goodies if they are hidden in porridge, but make sure not to give them too many treats. Add a good quality poultry tonic to the water and see what happens. Good luck.
Heidi-Hi
Hi Claret, I'm on day 2 of Flubenvet, and just got some Tonic to go in the water. I didn't want to mess with their food to make it wet to put poultry spice, since it's got the Flubenvet on it at the moment. I don't know when they were last wormed, so I thought why not. Redwing
Chickens often go off lay when moved to a new home They will start again in time the worming wont do any harm though Hold off on the poultry spice till the worming is complete
