Mr Rhode Island Red
My Plymouth Rock hen, Sarah is acting strange lately, there are cattle staying in the field beside my girls, however whenever they see humans they run up to you to see if there is any food, and sometimes go over to the hens for a look. All of the girls don't take any notice of them, except Sarah. She is REALLY scared of them. When ever they come near her, she runs, flaps, falls a few times, and then into the run for cover. I bought her off someone who owns a huge farm and keeps nearly every breed of chicken you could think of, he also keeps ducks, turkeys, geese and cattle. He owns about 70 chickens alone Anyway I'm just wondereing if she might have had a big fright or accident involving cattle, and thats why she is scared of them. chicken bark
Not a clue I'm afraid. Who knows what goes on in their minds. Is she still as scared now? Could you put up a solid barrier between her and the cows so she can't see them - or is it the noise they make? Mollie333
I wouldn't worry that much, to be honest, my girls are scared of wheel barrows.

daxigirl
My lot run for cover if someone walks past the front hedge but nothing else seems to worry them, oh apart from the lawn mower.
MarkBevBen
Aww poor Sarah, how is she now with the cows? Could you maybe do some positive reinforcement with her to try and show her the cows won't harm her? Maybe there is something back in her memory, you never know do you hey? I'm not sure what phases our girls at the mo, we've had them just over a month now. They're so inquisitive and want to be in the action whatever's happening!
