Beating the increase on the Cube! ~~due to arrive 22nd ~~

Recommended Posts

Ok negotiations completed the NEW plan is (its changed that many times  ).

Next week....ORDER (cube green) but no run.:dance:

This will be butted up to the WIR thats being done (in slab laying stage at moment). Putting a pop hole in the run. Once that is finished my existing chucks will move into it all.

In the WIR planning to have an introduction section with removable barrier for when I start to get a few more chickens in the future. Will get a !gogreen! possibly for that or a cheap little wooden coop so that new chuck/s have their own coop.

Phew!! Its unbelievable the amount of head spinning have done over all this. I am sure I read somewhere chicken keeping was SIMPLE :lol::lol::lol::lol:

Oh I'm glad it's just not me.

I've decided it's a yes to getting it, as I've just seen that someone else (the red one on the longest cube run thread) has used the extension off the eglu and added it to their cube run. Genius, I've got an extension so could do that instead of spending the other £100 on the cube extension. I could then sell the eglu and get some more chooks. Yay all round  .

Next Pink or Orange? I think pink and then my lilac & blue shades will go without clashing.

I said I wasn't going to get carried away with all this and I still don't have any eggs yet!

10 mins later - oh no that won't work I still need an end panel for the Classic before I sell it. Plonker.

It's ok an end is £21ish just asked. Ordered the (cube pink) anyway, the marvel of Mr Visa.

Ordered my (cube pink) last week told OH yesterday :lol:

explained that I hadnt spent money as used credit card, infact saved us £100.

OH spent Sunday relaying red bricks to fit cube to outside and tonight will make a stable door and new hole for cube to fit upto.

He did ask how (cube pink) will get into garden and then explained he will have to build it :lol:

Poor man, dont you just love them sometimes.

I have just ordered a cube (cube green) too. I hadn't been thinking about it seriously at all but news of the price rises coincided with the need for a real cheer up after losing our first girl this weekend.

We've ordered the cube with the standard run, so we'll have to decide before we get any more girls whether or not to go WIR or buy the extension.

I was expecting more resistance from my OH but I think he needed cheering up too,

Sophie

Hello sophiemostly, looks like you're not far from me.

I'd recommend getting at least one extension on the cube run - with the regular run, you can't contain any more birds than the regular Eglu run... the square footage isn't that much different. Do bear in mind that you may, at some stage, need to leave them in the run for all or part of the day, so you will need to make sure that you have adequate space.

I have an extension on my cube run and am not too far from you if you're in the Oxford area; I'm happy for you to take a peek at mine if that helps.

Hi Claret,

Yep, we're not far from you at all.

That's very kind of you to offer us a look at your cube run. I think we're already convinced of the need for extra space over and above the standard run (I'd been looking at everyone else's photos and you're right, it looks smaller if anything than our classic with extension).

We're only going to have our two original girls in the cube to start with, free ranging most of the day. Longer term the plan is to slowly introduce two more hens via our eglu, but before we put them all in together we'll either get a run extension or a WIR. I can't see this happening for at least 2 months so I thought rather than spend money on the wrong thing now, we'll have a bit of thinking time,

Thanks for the tips!

Sophie

Still waiting.... :anxious: Wish would arrive soon I hate being stuck indoors especially on such a lovely day as today.

HURRY UP MR DELIVERY GUY.:lol::lol:

Best way to get a delivery to arrive is to go to the loo ... the second you are in full flow (sorry WAY too much information) the doorbell will ring!:wink:

Sorry have been out shopping and cleaning animals out. :D

Yes it arrived.:dance::dance: There are 4 boxes waiting in the garage now... hubby wouldnt let me start putting it together  . He doesnt trust me to get all the pieces in the right place. Besides it has to be carted off to uppper garden so probably best done in pieces. I hate him being right. !!

Roll on Sunday which weather permitting will be the next chance to do some more work on it all.

Put another two panels in place in the WIR I can see I am going to have to get him to alter it, I need the door in the middle not on the end!! I wasnt around to supervise him (was waiting for Mr Delivery guy :D ).
