Lesley
hmmm... don't know if joy is quite the right word We are leaving most of it until we take two weeks holiday at home in August - we appear to have a surfeit of beds - that's the problem with buying beds to 'dress' rooms so that people know what there purpose is
Louise
Just think how lovely it will be to have your pictures and bits and bobs back again Living with the basics is okay for a while i did it for two years and it was so nice to eventually have a nice house and things to dress it with Mind you I now have a bed in my dining room
Lesley
I've just been speaking to the man who supplies turkeys - he asked me whether I wanted Super Minis, Plumpies or Roly Polys We're having Kelly Bronzes this year - and they are expensive Super Minis should grow to the weight I want - i don't want to grow great big birds

Lesley
I think a Roly Poly would be bigger than Jazz I'll ask a bit more tomorrow when we go to the farm - conversation was a bit difficult, the man was on his mobile and sounded as if he was in with a shed full of turkeys Carl was ill at work yesterday and had to come and work at home - I was up in the night with an anxiety attack........... I think it is all catching up with us a bit. It will all settle down soon - and then we will feel that we have moved on
Guest
Best wishes to you and Carl Lesley You'll be able to live on the farm properly now
SarahJo
Glad everything is finally sorted re. the house. You and Carl should have a bit of "you" time if possible, all the adrenalin and stress, now lessening always seems to make people ill - like the body fights illness at the time when you least need it. . Typical as soon as things even out - you get ill . Best wishes
Guest
I have just understood 'super-minis, plumpies and roly-polys'. I originally read them as breeds but now I realise they're a sort of small, medium and large! I am so glad women's clothing is labelled like that!!!! Mel (& Paul)
what a wonderful turn this thread has taken Lesley - I do hope you are enjoying your first weekend as full time farmers
Lesley
It was really nice, with all these floods around and torrential rain, to realise that we only had one house to worry about! I was so busy sorting out the problems with the Big Green Poo Machine and checking on floodwater that I forgot that I was supposed to collect 4 turkeys yesterday I had to phone the farmer this morning - Sunday . He was very nice about it - i think he's getting used to me as I've already lost his name and phone number and forgotten to call him back about the turkeys and table chickens We used a middle man last year but he's stopped supplying the birds now so we went direct to the farmer. I was a bit worried about going as I knew it would be hatchery conditions. The barn with turkeys in was brilliant! I was so pleased we went. It was immaculately clean and didn't really smell. The turkeys had so much room, even when they grow there will be room for them. When they area couple of weeks older, they go out into a big run during the day, then on to the cornfield as well after the harvest. They are always protected by electric fence and put back into the barn at night. We also saw some day old turkeys - also kept in immaculate surroundings. We brought home our 4 new girls - we have Bronze this year as we booked them in time. They cost more than the white but they are so lovely - they've been making their cute little noise all afternoon. We've also moved the quail to their new home - a new rabbit ark within a double door aviary. They will be able to fly and perch up high and still be safe. I will be able to go and collect their eggs as it has the double doors and I won't have to worry about letting them out. Four new girls...... 7 weeks old...... Martin B
Wow! Will you be having turkey eggs aswell then? You may have a customer over here. Any news on the other big birds, that may be impending?
Snowy
They are gorgeous Lesley! I love turkeys. At the farm on holiday they had 4 in the chicken field - whenever I went to see them they followed me round barking at me! They make some great noises
Prongs
This might be out of place but Turkey's taste GOOD.
Martin B
What do you think they are for? Decoration?
Prongs
Well everyone's saying they're beautiful aren't they! I couldn't keep one as a pet.
Martin B
Lesley eat's the majority of her animals. Pigs, Sheep, Chickens and Turkeys. If they don't produce anything they don't live at Lesley's farm unless you are a rabbit! Oh and except Jazz, she left her to the Korean BBQ! Snowy
Prongs, don't worry, they are beautiful to look at and even better to eat knowing they've had a happy life tromping round Lesley's fields!
Prongs
Hehe, so long as they've been jumping around Lesley's farm we can eat them! That encourages me!
