Lesley
Piggies are all settled in now and have sorted out their pecking order. They stayed mostly in the ark for a week, but now they have got used to the fact that we feed them, they come running. They don't like the windy weather though and stayed inside today

Lesley
...it makes their tails go straight um........ the cockerels were very quiet today................................ .................................. nothing to do with me - I was at work........... Carl went out to collect the eggs this afternoon - and realised he'd forgotten to unlock the 2 'spare' cockerels this morning They're out now - eating and drinking and making up for lost time
SarahJo
Was thinking about you yesterday Lesley. . For 2 reasons .. lambs and walking . I took B and J to see some lambs at a friends farm in Wildbourclough, about 15mins from us. Nice pub called the Stanley Arms very near . Anyway one of the ewes gave birth whilst we were there .. the 1st came out, then another ... and then the 3rd . At one point I thought Ben would pass out, but Joe was ready to get his arm well and truly in there . All 3 lambs were fine, and after some discussion about "red snot" , and the fluids etc, the boys were reassured that very soon the lambs would be all cute, like the ones in the barn . Lesley
Sarah - fancy going to Wildboarclough without me I love walking there as it was the first walk I was able to do after my accident - a good circular road walk. We'll have to meet up at the pub sometime? We're ready for our lambs now, but they won't/shouldn't arrive just yet, even if Oliver performed on the day he arrived! Four of the ewes now have enlarged udders and we're hopeful that the other two may follow. It isn't worth getting the vet out to scan just 6 sheep so we just have to wait and see! We've sectioned off an area around the field shelter and have made a couple of stalls to pop them into for 24 hours or so. The lambing kit is ready and the long gloves and obstetrics gel are to hand I can't wait to use the castrators - so if any of you are a bit fed-up with your menfolk - just send them round, I need the practise I bet Ben and Joe are still talking about it! - how exciting! Lesley
Lesley and Carl are pleased to announce the safe arrival of the first lambs to be born on the farm! Between 10.00 and 10.30 last night - one boy, one girl! We went in at 10 to make cheese on toast as we hadn't eaten - just spent all evening watching because we knew she was close and she's the youngest, smallest sheep and these were her first lambs We were back out by 10.30 and both had been born We were just in time to sort out the little girl as she wasn't breathing and was being ignored by the Mum. Lauren and Jake came to visit before school this morning 10.30 last night This morning.... Ladies in waiting...... 4 of these 5 are pregnant. Mum and babies are in the stock trailer. We have two more bays in the field shelter waiting for more arrivals.

Martin B
Lesley they are adorable! What is all that slimey stuff on the back of the lamb in the first pic? It would be great to have some black lambs also. Would love to see them at some point.
The Dogmother
What is all that slimey stuff on the back of the lamb in the first pic? It's just 'gunk' from when it was born.... you've got a lot to learn Martin - you should see the state that human babies are born in

SarahJo
Yipee ... well done Lesley and Carl, and mummy ewe of course . The 2nd lamb out at the farm on saturday, was not breathing ... though usually you just have to give them a little nudge, and clear their noses ... still makes my heart miss a beat though . Will show Ben and Joe the pics when they finish school. .
