Egluntyne
Tea and sympathy dispensed and AA been and gone - all is well and the girl was fine after a cup of tea. She looked as white as a sheet when she arrived at the door. It's really been a week for accidents out here this week. The good news is that the Bank Manager was as helful as he was last year when we needed to sort out finance to buy this farm. The bridging loan will be extended and we won't have to sell the farm and move back to the house. We've been a bit worried that it might come to that. We've had a chat with both Estate Agents and hopefully, we will sell the house soon. What an action packed day you've had Lesley. Glad the bank mamager was able to help you. Why don't you put the house on Ebay? You can set a reserve price. Just kidding
Lesley
Not a bad idea - if they allowed it We'll be selling raffle tickets soon
The Dogmother
Great news about the bank manager Lesley - I know it was a weight on your mind. Hopefully Carl might relax a bit now.
Lesley
erm...... no! We still have to find a lot of money every quarter to pay the interest on the loan - as well as the mortgage - as well as heating the house we don't live in - as well as pay a gardener to keep the gardens reasonable .............. ..... but it's better than having to sell up
SarahJo
I thought your house would sell EASY PEASY .. I would buy it .. . Glad things are still manageable for you Lesley, even if not ideal. Good luck with the bees ....

Guest
GirlsMum - we did a day course in lambing at the local ag. college - it was invaluable. We did realise however that there was one bit they didn't cover - and that was aftercare for the ewe. Our book is as bad - it just states that the afterbirth should come away and tells you how to dispose of it. We need to know about signs to look out for, and we also need a decent thermometer. I wanted to take her temp. so that I could check for any increase in it should she start to look a bit poorly - we had two but both were rubbish! They have mercury in and we can't see a reading at all on one of them and the other one doesn't move so Carl and I are officially dead! Lesley - my brother's friend is a Shepherdess I have asked him to ask her for some advice. When we visited her farm at Easter we saw two lambs being born. The shepherdess has been asked! She says there is absolutely nothing you need to do or look out for for the ewes. She says the most important thing is to get them back out into the field as soon as possible. Certainly within 48 hours, but 8 hours after birth if you can manage it. the lambs can go with her. There is a special 'cake' which they have after birth (I think) but they need the grass to produce the milk properly. Without the grass, there isn't enough milk and then the ewes get frustrated and irritated by the suckling lambs. Have you had any more yet? The Dogmother
Rosie and i spent a lovely couple of hours at Lesley and Carl's this afternoon (got a half day off!), we've been kissing and cuddling the tiny lambs, moving hurdles and mucking out the sheep. Got a very busy weekend coming up, but will post the photos when I get a moment. Thanks L&C, Rosie went to Brownies absolutely brimming over with it
Lesley
Thanks for the help Clare - Mum no.1 is to be renamed Eeyore Carl had to put a halter on her and drag her - Clare whacked her on the beckside and Rosie and I each carried a lamb. She's now out in the field. Thanks for the info. Ginette - we didn't know that either We knew that had to be kept in a pen for 48 hours but not that they needed grass to make the milk
Guest
This lady didn't say keep them in a pen for 48 hours. Hers are back out on the field as soon after 8 hours as possible.

Lesley
No - but then I still hadn't got round to making any cake or biscuits At least the butter was in the mixing bowls when you came - further than I'd got when Clare came. The cake has been made - but the butter for biscuits is still in the bowl At least you put Pink Pig under the right photo Clare - and not under the one of me Bee Hives.......
