fluffyfeet
On the way back from SIL on Sunday we were very close to the place I had my last lot of bantams from and I just happened to mention that it might be nice to pop in and see what might be available. You all know what's coming next don't you....... I have 3 new ladies - A Maran, a Light Sussex and a very cute Barbu Duccle. It didn't end there though - as we walked to where the pens are OH noticed a beautiful little Dutch bantam Cockerel and commented how quiet their crow is in comparison to others. You guessed it - he is now in with the new girls too - and definitely eyeing up the Magnificent 7 in the WIR. I'm hoping that his presence will sort out the hierarchy amongst the existing ladies as a couple of them are being quite nasty at the moment so fingers crossed. Will try and get some decent pic's at the weekend. Dawn x Edited October 22, 2010 by Guest
chicken bark
I don't think it is possible to window shop where chickens are concerned. Looking forward to the photos. I hope your boy will be well behaved for you.

coco
I'm going with a freind to get her some Polands on Saturday. I promise not to come back with any more chickens. Besides which OH would never speak to me again and I need him to finish WIR.

Chortle Chook
I'd be very interested to find out what the Barbu Duccle is like. I really like the look of them and have wondered . . . but a book I have said that they are flighty and not for beginners. Do let me know. I think I can manage to sneek in two more hens before I have to stop. So far I just have 4 Silkies but I am in big deliberations about a final 2. Should they be Barbu Duccle, Frizzles, Polands or what? The truth is I have persuade my OH that we need one more Silkie but I don't think it would be noticed (well not till they were well settled in) if I got two of another kind
fluffyfeet
Have managed to get a few snaps this afternoon - let them into the WIR whilst the others did a bit of supervised free ranging. You should all be able to see them on this linky http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2085454&id=1037287477&l=f132640807 Hope you like them. fluffyfeet
I blame my OH for the cockerel - we weren't going to have another one, but he was smitten on sight so what could I do?? Re the Barbu Duccle - I was unsure about having one because of the bolshy pekins but was assured by the breeder that they will 'stand their ground' and are quite feisty. As for being flighty, time will tell. Plum - we have full on moult from a couple of the pekins at the mo hence the feathers - I checked the new quills and they have literally grown an inch overnight and are bright purple!! even on the cuckoo x silver partridge The barbu duccle should be a girl - please let me know if you think otherwise. reescj2 - No idea what breed to suggest to put with Silkies but I would probably go with the more 'gentle' breeds. I have to admit I came away from there thinking about the Hampshire Reds I'd seen, gorgeous and a similar size to the RIR's I had from there, so I might be 'popping' back there tomorrow, just to make it an even dozen you understand So, at the moment I now have 4 x pekins (1 cuckoo x silver partridge & 3 lavender), 1 gold partridge Wyandotte, 2 x RIR, 1 x Barbu Duccle, 1 x Cuckoo Maran and 1 Light Sussex and 1 x Dutch Cockerel. Addicted? Me? (and OH seems to have been afflicted too!!_ Dawn x
Lewis
All looking good Any names yet? Not sure about the d'uccle. Does look like a girl but looks like the fail feathers have been pecked too! Hopefully a girl!
