MarkBevBen
I haven't got ex-batts just now, but wanted to wish you well for the weekend and looking forward to seeing/hearing all about your new arrivals!
Dizzy-Deb
Aww congrats on getting some ex-batts. I will be getting some in a few weeks time too. We will all have to compare notes/advise each other when we get them so they can all have the best care possible. Look forward to seeing pics when you have them. Donna C
Congrats can't wait to see pics. Best thing for ex-batts is patience Thay may take a little longer to get the hang of things but they are worth it. Had ex-batts till august got orps now but am trying hard to got oh to let me have them again. (he's still upset over loss of other girls)
Chickybaby
Lots of TLC.......they really are worth it! I'm getting 4 more next weekend too so trying to think up some Halloween names for them. I've always had ex-bats, been keeping chickens for 4 years now and I wouldn't have any other sort.
Egluntyne
Lovely. I have 7 ex-batts. They are among my favourites. Tips - Give them time to rest and recove. Their bones and muscles will be in poor condition, even if they are reasonably well feathered. Expect them to be shell shocked and uncertain for a few days and then to start squabbling. Plenty of food and drink stations will let them see that there is plenty for everyone. I'd treat them for mites straight away, and keep them apart from any other hens you might have for at least a couple of weeks.
mags
hi got them today , one looks a bit ovenready but other 2 got most of their feathers. katek
I got three today too. The two larger ones are really inquisitive and tried to get out of the run when the door was open, the little one stayed still for over an hour not pecking or moving, but all seemed fine by time I put them to bed. I will let them roam tomorrow if they want.
sparkysmum
Hi Mags, Well done for rehoming ex batts. We resisted the temptation as the area we had planned for them would have been too cold & exposed at this time of year. I love our ex batt Boris & Penny who passed away. Boris is the friendliest but also feistiest of our hens and is top chook. Enjoy. Alli x
Wolfie
Hi Mags & Katek! Good on ya for getting rescue hens. We had four rescue ex-batts but one died - she at least had the whole of the summer free. She was always a bit away with the fairies. My top tips are: Flubenvet them for worms, take photos as they really do change. Sweet and docile yes for the first 48 hours and then put vaseline on their combs because ours fought like thugs to establish the order. Buy them live mealworms - we have a monthly delivery. They deserve it! Toppest tip - don't wear your Hamilton & Inches earrings in their run. Hens, I now know, are attracted to shiny sparkles - 22 carat gobbled up. Enjoy your little pets! enpekt
What came first? The chicken or the eglu? In this house, overcrowding causes housing... Guess what causes the overcrowding?... ...Or who?...
