I think this is fab! I'm learning to knit, a bit too rubbish at the moment for this

but I like the idea of people all over the country helping these little chooks keep

I have seen this before, but am worried about the effects of these jumpers. As when new quills are coming through they are particularly sensitive and easily damaged, which could easily happen through the brushing effect of the jumpers.

 

I'm sure it's the best of intentions, but worry about the actual benefit for the hens, particularly as hens body temperatures are higher than humans.

Debs is right - the BHWT doesn't recommend them.

Lovely thought but they really aren't necessary and can distort the emerging quills.

I agree too. Also, they get filthy, and can be dangerous if caught on something. They may have their place for the really poorly ex batt who needs lots of indoor care to set her on the road to recovery, but for most of them, there is no need.

Yes I've looked into it a bit, maybe not such a good idea.

Shame it makes them look so cozy!

Another example of us projecting human needs onto them!

 

They're such tough little lassies, It was so incredibly cold here last night,

But they seem fine with it. Apart from their current obsession with the kitchen which I'm inclined to think

is because it's warm but maybe they just like hoovering up crumbs.....

They wait at the door, I'm trying to be tougher and never letting them in but it's just so funny
