maxjam
I have several Eglu's in a 30x30ft run, when its wet the run get very soggy. The soil is heavy clay and nothing we do keeps it dry. Anyone else had this problem? And any ideas as to how to resolve it?
Patricia W
We have the same soil. I have covered the eglus with light clear plastic corrugated sheet from Wickes- £5 each if I remember. I have two on one eglu and three on the other, both secured with bungees. Three is better. I use aubiose in the run, on top of a few handfuls of Stalosan F. It lasts about 6 -8 weeks and the run is very dry. Now outside, is another matter.... more like the Somme.
Plum
That's a big run and on clay must be a real problem. I would put down some garden lime to sweeten the soil then a layer of woodchip. You could also use things like pallets or leylandii branches to walk on to help prevent mud but wouldn't look very pretty
beach chick
there's a chap in this month's mag who says he puts a 2 metre layer of woodchip round his chicken housing, so the rest is muddy but at least they have a chance to clean feet a bit before they get indoors - might that work for you?
