Look out for the Geminid meteor shower peaking on Monday night/tuesday morning.

For us lot oop North here and Scotland there is a more than normal chance of seeing Aurora tomorrow night and Saturday night.

There is a total lunar eclipse on the winter solstice but we'll get only the beginning here as the moon sets but anybody in The States should get a view of 72minutes!!!! of totality with a beautiful blood red moon hanging in the sky.

The sky here has been crystal clear for the past few nights,so I hope it lasts.

Hubby could see Jupiter (I think) really bright & clear at 5am this morning.

Will look out for things then. I love the sunsets this time of year - beautiful pinks & oranges over snowy / frosty fields.

Jupiter has been brilliant for some time now - I was looking at its moons through Phil's telescope.

 

Saw a shooting star last night, but wrong direction for a geminid. I love the winter sky - Orion looks down over my house and somehow everything seems right.

I've not seen Jupiter in the morning yet, but it's up there of an evening, rising in the east.

Don't change it. It is Venus.

Jupiter is an evening planet.

We've got lovely clear skies at the moment - hope they continue long enough to see them......we were picking out constellations last night on the way home with grandson.

Hmm, just looked a bit closer at my pic and there's something to the right and a little higher than Venus, over by the tree, a little dot. Do you think it might be Saturn?

The only trouble with spotting the less obvious constellations is that there aren't those white lines joining the stars in the sky

Anyone with a smart phone should download Google Skymap - it is amazing & really fascinating.

I think there's a free apple app called planets that gives a 3D view of the sky.
