ali-s
The weekend before last OH ordered and paid in full for a Netbook for DD for Christmas at a Comet store in Inverness. As we live an hours drive away we were told that the Netbook would be delivered to our local store for collection and we would be contacted by phone when the Netbook had arrived. Delivery was due towards the end of last week. On Saturday afternoon OH got a phone call from the store in Inverness and was told that the Netbook had been delivered to our local store but they had sold it to some one else He was also informed that they were struggling to get further supplies of that particular Netbook. The assistant said that he would phone on Monday (today) to update us. No one has phoned today I am so angry Surely if we have paid for the item in full and it was delivered to the local store for collection by us the Netbook is ours and it cannot be sold to some one else? So before I start phoning Comet or driving to our local store I thought I would ask here for advise. OH even bought a lovely Netbook case when he paid for the Netbook which will not be much use if DD hasn't anything to put in it
Ain't Nobody Here
I'm not surprised you're furious, that's terrible . I don't know your rights, sadly, but I hope they sort it out . They should be made to source a Netbook from another shop if necessary . What Netbook is it? Perhaps somebody here can source it for you and Comet can give you a refund (and some compensation!) Chucky Mama
I would secure one elsewhere and then ask for a refund. They don't deserve your business. Mistakes do happen but they should have gone out of their way to find you another one straight away.

ali-s
I'm not sure of the make OH has the paperwork/receipt with him as he was going to collect it on his way home from work. The netbook was on special offer and well under half price so there is a demand for them and probably the reason supplies are running low. If we can't get the one we paid for I shall push for another make with the same specifications for the price we paid. I have just heard on the radio that many companies are not taking orders in Scotland for Christmas delivery as there is a backlog of items delayed due to the bad weather and some cannot even deliver items before Christmas which were ordered before the snow started. Even if there is one out there if it has to come from England we might not get it before Christmas now

chicken bark
That unfortunately sounds typical of these places. They are only bothered about selling and not about their customers. Good luck with it and I hope you source a netbook for your DD. I also heard on the news today about delivery problems in Scotland. I am sure your DD will understand but it is not a nice situation. I'd lay the emotional blackmail on them as thickly as possible and insist on speaking only to the manager.
Chucky Mama
I'd give John Lewis a try.
Ain't Nobody Here
Don't know if this is any use ..... If you can find one in Edinburgh, I could collect it (there is a Comet very near me), give it to my brother who is down in Edinburgh this w/e (weather permitting) but lives in Nairn and then you could collect it from him? ali-s
Thanks ANH that is very kind of you. Unfortunately Comet just phoned and the Netbook is now out of stock Just waiting for OH to get home so we can decide what to do. I think I will be visiting the local store tomorrow
Willow
Check your rights, by taking your money they formed a contract and have an obligation to provide the goods. I'd research the specific acts and quote them at Comet and ask for a equivalent spec machine at no extra cost.
Redwing
Comet once sold us a dishwasher that wasnt in production We stood in the store and complained loudly in front of a queue and refused to be ushered in to a side room We got a better spec dishwasher for our trouble They sold your netbook, I'd push for the same spec or better but do it in store, you'll get further - dont lose your temper but be assertive - when they took your money they entered in to a contract to supply the item - they need to sort it out
bluekarin
I can't find any info on the interweb about it, but I would get on to trading standards about it, they have an email, but it might be different for your area. That is so wrong of the store to do what they have done. I'm not sure I'd be strong enough to complain loudly in front of lots of people, but it's what I'd want to do How very dare they! The Dogmother
Tasha and the others are right - they have sold your property..... tantamount to theft methinks. I'd throw the rule book at them and demand the netbook of your choice as recompense.

ali-s
Sorry I forgot to post an update. OH went to the local store on Tuesday and after a little discussion with the manager was assured that a different model will be ready for collection tomorrow. Fingers crossed the snow stays away so the Netbook can be delivered to the store and OH can get to town to collect it.
