One of my pure breeds is sitting in the nest!

Recommended Posts

For the past couple of days, Flavia our Salmon Favorelle has suddenly started sitting in the nest. She has never gone in there before as it's where the ex batts sleep at night and she always sleeps on the perches.

We have noticed that she does crouch when we stroke her but as it's January and we assume pure breeds don't lay this time of year we aren't sure what she is doing. Do they practice laying in the nest before they decide to lay any eggs in the future or is she feeling broody? She is around 31wks old we think.

We just found an egg in the nest and it's lighter and much smaller than the ones the ex batts lay, not sure if she laid it or not :?:

My little welsummer laid her first egg on sunday and i had another today, it has to be her as i have an araucana so the little brown egg is not hers and my frazzle is showing no signs except getting pinker in the face.

So i would say it is hers .

This is really encouraging, as Patty, my light Sussex, has been scratting around in the next box, and as she's an unsociable madam, I don't get to stroke much, but she did let me yesterday, when I was bribing her with brussell sprouts. I really hope she starts to lay soon...I'm becoming a family joke.....the only chicken keeper who still buys her own eggs. They're an ignorant lot, my family
