Mrs Webmuppet
Ok this may seem a daft question. I was discussing the fact that there's a chicken show near us later this month with Mr W and he said why not enter Bling our Wyandotte I pointed out that I didn't have a clue about chicken shows and how to prepare a chook for a show or even the procedures/ what happens. So over to the experts.....................Redwing and co. What does one do? and how do you know if it's even worth entering hubby's pet chook ( very pretty but a gobby little madam)
Space Chick
First question... Is she wing clipped? As that is frowned upon
laurmurf
it is frowned upon but not a disaster - I've shown chooks with clipped wings and got away with it. Get the 'schedule' for your local show, find out the classes that are being shown and the closing date. Choose your class, fill in your form, send off your 75p or £1.50 per entry in time for the closing date then a week or so before your show get your chook ready! Simples! If you want to start slowly, try entering eggs (if you got any!)
Redwing
I'm on my iPhone so will post fully tomorrow but a quick question - what colour is the Wyandotte? I can post in more detail if I know
Lewis
I did as Laurie says and started by showing eggs and photos at The National ... got 1st, 1st, 2nd + 4th Didn't really think about showing the girls but was going to Four Counties and thought why not if I'm going so entered Cilla the Silkie + Alice the Barred Dotte (and 3 eggs) Washed them in the bath with small animal shampoo, a few days before the show and they stayed in the bathroom for a few days to dry naturally in the warm (no hairdryers). You don't feed them the morning of the show, so they have an empty crop for judging.Took them along, was only a little show so penned them and plated the eggs. Alice came 2nd to Tashas and Cilla got 1st + Silkie club prize (in her mahoosive class or not ), eggs got 1st too and had fun doing it Have entered the same into The Northern next weekend She's a Gold laced 'dotte Tasha Sometimes entries close a few weeks before the show so check when the closing date is...
