grageomat
My house is going up for sale as me and my partner have broken up and i just don't know whats going to happen with the chickens! i could maybe try selling them with the house but i really don't want to lose them as they are pets not just chickens!! But i just don't know where i will be moving to and whether there will be space for them when i get there, and also if there is a period of time in between houses, where i may have to rent accommodation - where would they go!!! is there like kennels for chickens? can i get someone to take them until i move and can take them back? i really don't want to lose them! on the plus side i have spotted a house im going to view with 6 acres so there would be plenty space for more
chicken bark
Sorry you have split up. I had a similar situation some years back when I needed temporary accommodation for my cats (for about 8 weeks). Fortunately my ex's MIL came to my assistance. Are there any relatives/neighbours nearby that could take them on for you? It is a very tricky situation and not a worry you need on top of everything else. Maybe there are some Omleteers nearby? Chortle Chook
I'm sorry you are splitting up. I can see why you would not want to sell such lovely looking chooks. Have you asked your local pet shop or garden centre if they can look after them? Two of the garden centres near me do offer what they call a 'holiday service' for small animals. For a reasonable fee they take in rabbits, guineapigs, hammies and one certainly has chickens too. I know because the pens all have large labels saying 'On Holiday' on them. They do this because it attracts people to come and look round to see the 'zoo'.
grageomat
thanks, i know its just a stress!! i have the dogs as well but i can take them with me wherever or ask mother dear to take the little rascals till im sorted, but the chickens are puzzling me. i was thinking maybe i could phone the breeder where i got most of them from and see if she can hold them and i pay her to look after them, do u think thats cheeky i mean we are away to come up to her busiest time of year

Chortle Chook
On the plus side garden centres won't have that many chickens up for sale at this time of year and may want to have some just to show people and get them interested, especially as yours are so very pretty. When you ask them I'd take a photo or two. I can't remember quite how much our garden centres charge but I know it is a lot less than traditional pet sitter services. You could also put an ad up in your local pet supply store for a chicken sitter.
sparkysmum
Hi I too am sorry that you and your partner are separating. This company based in Fife does hen boarding. http://www.henkeepingfife.co.uk/I don't know much about them though but they look good. Egluntyne
Sorry to hear your news. Why not consider asking in the Chicken Sitters section if someone could 'foster' them for a few weeks before you make your decision about what to do. meezers
Check with your vets if they know of anyone who'll take in chickens - there are two adverts at our vets for people who look after rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens while you're on holiday. I also noticed the cattery I use takes chickens as well as other small animals. Ask your vets first and if no luck try all the catteries and boarding kennels in the phone book. Good luck.
