chestnutmare
She appeared to be snoozing in the nesting box yesterday. I didn't think much of it. This morning she was sitting in the nesting box. I checked a little while later. No egg. Early this afternoon she was in the nesting box and making chickeny noises. Later this afternoon I found... (Snowy's eggs are a little dirty (not speckled! ) I replace the straw in the nesting box every morning but for the last two mornings she's beaten me to it). Willow's egg weighs 50g. There looked to be a little blood on it (on the side you can't see in the picture). Ahhh, love her. She knew it was coming, she was preparing well. chestnutmare
Hurray! Good old Willow - and green! Lovely eggs - you will have a lovely selection of colours when they all start We were looking forward to seeing what colour she'd lay, and we're not disappointed. We're just waiting on Belle now. Obviously I'm not singing enough for her. "Chick, chick, chick, chick, chickeeeen, lay a little egg for me, (please Belle)." I have three eggs at the moment and I'm waiting to fill up a box of four for my cousin. Why is it I'm already willing to share my eggs?!? Especially as my amazing colour changing egg timer arrived today, and those poachers from Omlet.

chestnutmare
Ah thanks. The egg is no more though, I just had it poached on toast. And very nice it was too. There's a demand for these eggs so hopefully Belle will lay soon. I obviously just need more than three chickens.
Sageandonion
Glad you ate yourself CNM and enjoyed it. Just curious - does the egg yolk colouring differ from hen to hen? If you're after new girls - I still have that reduced priced 'Go' in my basket !
chestnutmare
Glad you ate yourself CNM and enjoyed it. Just curious - does the egg yolk colouring differ from hen to hen? If you're after new girls - I still have that reduced priced 'Go' in my basket ! No all of the yolks have been a lovely deep yellow colour. The only difference to look at is that the was smaller (egg and yolk) than the . The girls get the Omlet feed and just a handful of corn late afternoon. They have access to grit. The shells are lovely and thick too. OH is eating scrambled as I type. There goes my cousin's four eggs for tomorrow. Unless they lay well today and early tomorrow. I wonder if you could get that at the reduced price still... I'm so glad I got mine. Although you do have a beautiful hen house for yours. Are you tempted to get more already? Sageandonion
Hi CNM - I do wonder about that 'Go' for introductions/ hospital wing but can't really justify another spend , though as I type I have my Flytesofancy basket full of essentials . Our hen house sleeps 6 so I'm ok for now for morehens disease and I reckon I could use our dog crate for poorly chooks etc. I would at some stage like to get a couple of Orpingtons just because they look so cute and cuddly - but a maximum of 5 would be it for us I think, have you got any girls on your wish list? I think you may just have to get one or two more to keep up with your egg demand, you can't disappoint your customers now can you ? How is Snowy today, hope she's over her sneezes? chestnutmare
I know what you mean. I've spent a load as well. I really should get the netting. We need it after this morning. We put the girls in an empty stable to check them over and start handling them. Willow however decided to free range it and she was difficult to pick up. Nevermind customers - these are the none paying type - relatives. We only had one egg left after this morning's breakfast but we're up to three now. Another and for us this morning. So my cousin might get his box tomorrow after all. I'd have a couple more hybrids if I had to choose now. So when are you getting the other two to make it 5? Snowy seems a bit better today, thanks. I think I caught her sneezing once but that's been it. She's still eating and being cheeky.
Sageandonion
Not sure when we'll get the other 2 . Would have to get a bigger run for when I can't let them out and that will be more expense. I have 2 sources of Orpingtons but think bantam orps may be better in terms of size/space and I'm not sure where to get them from either. Also think I need to get more experience 1st in case the intros are difficult. Having said that though having had the girls for a week I can see how morehens disease strikes so easily . Glad Snowy is better today, she sounds a real sweetie. Hope your cousin enjoys the eggs.
