Nicola O
Hello clever e-bay using people. Have not used e-bay for some time but yesterday put my computer desk and chair on there as two seperate items as COLLECTION ONLY. This morning I had a question asking if I would be happy for a courier to collect the chair, rather than collect in person. I looked at the details of the person and it said they were based in Hong Kong!! Surely it would be cheaper to buy a chair there? I sent this response :- Hi I am more than happy for a courier to collect the chair on your behalf - under certain conditions. 1) YOU arrange and pay for the courier. 2) The item is paid by PayPal before the courier collects - if courier turns up and the item is not paid for I WIL NOT let the courier collect it. 3) Any wrapping or packing is done by the courier as I have nothing to do this with. 4) I WILL NOT take responsibilty for any loss or damage during the couriers transportation. If you request and arrange a courier, the responsibility is yours. If you claim there is damage on delivery I will not refund cost of chair. 5) I work full time, so the courier will need to fit the collection around me. I cannot take time off work to wait for a courier. I am sorry if this seems harsh, but this is why I had said 'collection only'. Thanks for your enquiry, hope I haven't put you off bidding . I am always worried about being scammed by someone from abroad, so do you think this sound OK, or is this is something I should have run a mile from. Thanks, Nicola. Nicola O
Oh, and this is the chair, by the way, nothing special so I'm wondering why someone in Hong Kong would want it.... Nicola.

Olly
Afraid I agree ... I don't think they are serious buyers.
Nicola O
Tell 'em to get lost. That was my first thought actually, but I didn't want to seem rude (perhaps I'm just too nice and polite ) I just don't see why someone in Hong Kong wants to pay out to courier a chair, surely they sell chairs in Hong Kong . Egluntyne
I wouldn't worry about seeming rude. They are having you on.
Snowy
I agree, I just used to ignore any blatantly silly ones like that (although initially I did try to respond politely, after the first few I gave up - or just replied NO)
Nicola O
Thanks for the advice, If they find the desk and ask the same question I'll just type a big NO . Nicola
Chucky Mama
I agree, a big fat no from me too. Perhaps you could add UK buyers only to your listing
Nicola O
Perhaps you could add UK buyers only to your listing Good idea, will do..........how do I do that??. Nicola
WitchHazel
Maybe they are buying for someone based in the UK? Or they are in the UK at the moment? I used to travel to the US a lot. I would sometimes buy items, have them delivered to one of my friends (we weren't allowed to have things delivered to work) and they would bring it in to the US office the next time I visited. I've also bought pressies for friends in the US this way, I agree it is quite possible they are having you on, but that's not always the case. Cinnamon
It could be (it has happened to me several times) that they are on an overseas eBay site, but are based here due to repatriation or something. Still,my reply would have been a firm NO! ANY courier will need the item packed before they collect,& most need the person they are collecting from to be at home when they call to pick up. If you have a worry that they will still bid on the chair, add them to your blocked bidders list.......
soapdragon
I have sold a few things as 'Collect Only' and add, in the description bit, that this is the case and 'if you cannot collect, please don't bid.' Seems to have worked so far apart from someone in Kent (we are in Oxford) who clearly could not read . In the end OH was able to drop it off whilst on business. If someone bids and wins and then cannot or will not collect you can open a non payment dispute in the resolution centre provided that you have made it abundantly clear that its 'collect only'. Good luck! Korma Casserole Kiev
WarrensWorld
I should just ignore him, What's not to understand about, FOR COLLECTION ONLY.
LeeMeadfan
You can 'block' certain bidders - I had a problem with this (from China - must be something in the water in Asia! ) when I was selling some antique hand fans - had clearly stated UK only etc. 'Winning' bidder turned out to be an elderly gentleman without a clear understanding of English - his son apologised etc. As he was placing bids on my other fans I had to 'block' him - had tried contacting and the son's and my messages crossed! loulou-x
If i get questions like that I just remind them the item is collection only so oversea bidders can't buy the item. Otherwise its too much hassle!
chuckmum6
To be honest, I would just block that buyer, you don't need the hassle! It is all to possible that they may try and bid. It sounds a bit fishy to me, unless you are selling Chippendale furniture why would anyone want to ship a chair around the world?

Interesting as I live not far from you and had a similar experience when The Boy sold an armchair of mine on Ebay for me. I went to great pains to state in the listing that it was a large item (gave measurements) and that I advised collection with a suitably sized vehicle... the bid was then won by a bloke in Kent (perhaps it is the same person?) who then backed out when we asked how he intended to collect it... he hadn't read my location, nor collection instructions I agree, your man is having a laugh - tell him to bother off. Nicola O
The auction ended and the chair didn't sell (three watchers but no takers) so at least it means I won't have to package it up and post it to Hong Kong n Nicola
