Headphones that last.........

Recommended Posts

My girls both use their ipods a lot,bit don't like the little hard round headphones that come with them.

They prefer the ones that pop right into the ear,but they just don't last any time at all :?

I have tried cheap ones (£7),replacing them every 6 weeks or so.

Then 6 months ago I decided to try some more expensive Denon ones from John Lewis (around £25),& now they have gone belly-up too

Can anyone recommend some that sound good & will last a while?

I found some Pink ones for £2.99 in Argos yesterday - guessing they are probably not quite what you are after! But I figured for £2.99 they didn't have to last too long.... And no-body was going to steal them from my desk at work!

But Argos did have quite a few in their sale - I didn't look at the more expensive ones(i.e. above a fiver!!), but could be worth a peek??

I got some of these half price in Sainsburys just after Christmas http://www.headphoneworld.com/p/JVC_HA-F140_In-Ear_Colourful_Gumy_Headphones.htm in white to replace my ED ipod nano ones. She says they are much better than the proper ipod ones! The sound is much clearer and she doesn't need to have the volume turned up too high anymore. Not sure how long they will last though. I think it is an inherent problem with the connectors going in these things. Especially if you think of how much they are shoved into pockets/bags and the cords wrapped around the devices they are attached to.

They are actually really carfeul with them, using proper wire wraps & everything.

Its been an ongoing problem for many years......I think that they are just one of those things that are not built to lat.

Interestingly & very tellingly,John Lewis do not offer any guarantee on them.

I have bought another pair of £25 ones (thank heavens for my discount!), & will gauge how long these last :lol:

I've had some Gumy headphones before + really liked them. Got some more from Santa this year

With my last 3 pairs of proper ipod headphones, the one ear just decides to break so end up with only 1 side working.

Sennheiser are great, not just for headphones but all their stuff we use at the theatre 8)

Also worth pointing out that £25 for a pair of Denon headphones is a substantial amount of money, and if they failed as a result of not being up to the job of normal use, then they're not "of merchantable quality". Consumer protection should allow you to get your money back.

...although the law on merchantable goods doesn't pay any attention to warranties.

Basically, if one could reasonably expect an item to last two or three years and this example doesn't, the manufacturer may well be liable to replace or refund even if the warranty has expired. As a rule of thumb with electrical goods, during the first year the burden is on the manufacturer to prove a failed product wasn't defective, whilst after the first year the burden then shifts to the consumer to prove the failure was due to a defect.

Nonetheless, if Denon's warranty does cover Cinnamon (as Bluekarin's post suggests it does), it's a useful first port of call.
