the-marks
I'm considering getting a WIR as the majority of plants in garden are gradually being pecked and eaten and OH is not happy! However, I'm not sure about the girls only being in a WIR and not being able to free range a few times a week like they currently do. Does anyone else just keep their girls in a WIR or have any advice?
Redwing
As long as it is big enough they will be fine They will make you feel guilty at first though with loud protests and pacing - its all an act
Olly
Mine are in a walk-in run all the time in winter, because I'm at work during daylight hours. I let them free range at weekends for an hour or two, and in the summer after work, but they are fine - if the run is big enough, you can put some branches and so on in there to give them different levels and they will be quite happy. coco
My girls went into the WIR in December from two smaller runs. They don't Fr at all now but seem perfectly happy in the WIR, they don't even pace anymore.
Space Chick
My lot spend most of their time in the WIR in the winter because of work. I have given them tables to jump on, perches, dust baths etc to give them more interest They protest if they see you, but when I watch them on the webcam, they are quite happy
batcatz
Mine are in a secure walk in run and are quite happy too. I let them out less in winter, maybe an hour supervised per week, but not at the moment as I keep seeing foxes. There was one in my garden this afternoon. eeek. I let them out much more (still supervised) in the summer. Keeping them in a walk in run will definately save your garden.
fantasticjudyann
My three have always been in a secure WIR and are quite happy and its quite a big one . I provide perches , greens and treats together with those seed pecker things so they aren't bored. I might let them out for an hour on summer days but I take my chair up the garden and sit with them just in case Yours will be fine.
