Plum
Does anyone have details of the grass seed that's good to use in chicken areas and has long roots? Thanks x
Janty
I've given up on a lawn. I prefer chickens anyway.
Margaret
Returfed whole garden last year, didnt survive chooks playing on it, this winter has been fine but havent allowed Girlies on it at all
Jools
I tried re-seeding a few years ago, but found it couldn't withstand even my bantams so I re-turfed the bare bit instead and covered it with plastic mesh which worked much better. Now I have two bantam areas - a grass area for April-November-ish and a woodchip area for winter. This way the grass doesn't get trashed and destroyed over winter and gets a head start before the bantams move back in. It works well for me
sandyhas3chucks
First winter I thought it never would but come spring Bits don't make it, I now though have mesh over 80 % of te garden the grass grows through it eventually and you can't see it, but it can not have holes dug in it

I am having some turf delivered on Thursday (very reasonably priced) to make the girls a mini lawn next to the WIR. My girls spoilt - as if
sandyhas3chucks
i threw turfs down where dog pee had turned brown and allowed good dirt scratching. by april you could not see and that was literally laid on top, had meant to dig up and put in properly, needless to say have done the same this winter. My girls prefer the medallion turf spoilt? surely not
darkwoodali
Mmm, was planning on moving the Cube and Run around the garden but now I'm a bit worried. I've only had it about 4 weeks and have moved it twice in that time as the grass looked completely knackered and I wanted to give it a chance to recover. Now think I might be being a bit optimistic. Do people recommend re-seeding the lawn where the run has been as soon as it's moved or is there something else I can use that will revive it but is safe for chooks, dogs and kids (not necessarily in that order ). Thanks!
laurmurf
the temperatures are still too low at the moment for grass growth or regrowth, i'd wait till it warms up a bit for reseeding. That's what we're doing anyway.
darkwoodali
Anyone got any recommendations on which type of grass seed to use?
Patricia W
A long time ago someone experimented with some hardier type of grass seed. Maybe one of the mods could find that for you?

Omletina Kyckling
I've laid down some grass mesh in an attempt to try to save my lawn. I've started a separate topic on it here http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=74505
MummyHen
did anyone try the Poultry Grass Seed mentioned in this thread? And if so what are the results - I'd like some green on the ground instead of brown
