kinsk
Last Feb we got 3 ex batts, unfortunately we lost one to a prolapse last summer. As the live in an eglu classic, albeit with an extended run and get let out most afternoons we decided three was the maximum and didn't want to risk introducing just one to two already established hens. This weekend little hen started looking very hunched up and sorry for herself, still came out yesterday for a wander round but in a very shuffled hunch fashion. This morning she didn't come out for breakfast so I made the decision to bring her in and keep her warm with water and food right next to her. Tonight she'd gone So now I have one confused hen who is on her own and not looking happy about it. Would be more than happy to rescue a couple more but don't want to leave her on her own for too long and that could take a couple of weeks. Was also thinking of ordering some of Omlet, how long to they tend to take to deliver them? Bless her, she was a lovely little thing. jlo
Sorry to hear your news. I am not sure how long Omlet take to deliver but is there anywhere near you where you could get a couple of other girls. Your little one will probably get quite lonely on her own! I am sure that you will take note of all the good advice on the Introductions FAQ as it can be slightly tricky introducing two to one. Henslaved
Sorry about your little one . Found this on a river cottage forum "You can buy end of lay hens hens at Chelford Market http://www.frmauctions.co.uk/ Also ex battery hens go for around a £1.00 while ex free range make £4 to £6.00. If you are buying end of lay hens get battery hens as they are only kept for one year and soon recover from there unhappy lot. Free range are sold after two or three years and wont lay well." Click on Chelford Market on the left, and then poultry, cage and aviary there's a sale date for 2nd Feb

Tweety
I'm sorry to hear your sad news. I lost two of my girls this weekend, so I know how you are feeling. I am also in Cheshire and, as Henslaved says, Chelford Market has regular poultry sales - every Monday I think. Alternatively, you could look in Practical Poultry magazine which contains a breeder's directory, and there are several listed in this area. I hope you find some little friends for your single hen. beckyfitz
Sorry to hear that. I was in a similar situation a couple of weeks ago, having lost two of my three hens - one to illness & one to a prolapse. Luckily I have a local breeder so was able to pick up another girl quite soon & after a week of segregation & chatting 'through bars' they are now happily living together. Good luck with finding another one or two, I'm sure your remaining henny will soon pick up with a friend or two Becky x
