xScrunchee
We got our hens on Tuesday and so far have spent every day in the garden, rain and shine! (We take cover in the playhouse when the rain is bad) Yesterday we let our hens free range for the first time and they take cover from the rain in the playhouse with us!! They really are soooo sweet and they put themselves to bed at night when they think it's a bit dark! So happy that we got them Can't wait to see your pics

Hen Watch
Congrats on the new chooks. We got 1 new one today as well to go with our 3 from Omlet that came 4 weeks ago. She's an Amber Star white hybrid we got from a Meadowsweet Agent. I had her penned off in the garden whilst I wait for the others to go to bed and she's just managed to jail-break into the garden..... helenp
All safely tucked in bed. They put themselves to bed, I looked out at about 9.30 and they had gone to bed. Hope it will be as easy as that everynight.

Been to get them some veggies today, at prsent they are all looking at a cabbage wodering who will eat it first. Have Hemcored part of the run and left the rest as green grass( very green as it is chucking it down at the minute). How oftern do I clean the roosting bars, need to order a spare pair asap!!! Also with hemcore in the eglu how often do I clean that out. Got ecover all purpose cleaner today to clean the eglu with in a few days is that the right the right cleaner? Sorry to ask dim questions but I adore my girls & want them to have the best of everything!!!! As our dog cats, bunnie & hammies have the best!! Sarah71
Hiya, sorry I haven't been on the forum to reply to your posts for a couple of days, I've been in Northwich at the Thundersprint stalking James May from Top Gear that's why I've just been replying to your texts. I s"Ooops, word censored!"e the poo off the bars everyday with an old wallpaper s"Ooops, word censored!"er onto the tray and I wash the bars twice a week. It's def a good idea to get a spare set, I have. I clean bedding (hemcore/amboise) when I change the bars. Hope that helps. See you Thursday
helenp
Hi Sarah. Stalking James May (hamster would be my choice!!!!) I took my camera to work today to show off my girls, just like a proud mum!! Couldn't wait to get home and go & sit in the garden!! The girls are fine, just had tea, and clucking happily away. I cleaned the bars tonight & the poo tray. was not as bad as i thought it was going to be. Hen has now done her orange poop, so only Amber to go... See you Thursday, I'll have the kettle on!!! braden01
We've had our 3 weeks tomorrow and we're still chicken-mad in our house. For cleaner, I got some special stuff from Sainsbury's pet aisle for cleaning any kind of pet home (and can even go on the pet without harming them apparently, although I don't think our chucks would appreciate it). The advice is not to use any other kind of cleaner and I guess this would include Ecover - it might be kind to the environment but I'm not sure about kind to your chickens. Maybe you could call Ecover's customer services to check? Bet they've never had that question before!
helenp
Hi. I checked on the forum and ecover is fine for cleaning the eglus, will have a look for the pet cleaner in the supermarket next time I go. They are so addictive, just going to give them a cuddle, and make hubby a cup of tea!!!
Snowy
I clean mine with Ecover multi surface cleaner and rinse it thoroughly. It smells lovely for ages after!
Sheilaz
...... Got ecover all purpose cleaner today to clean the eglu with in a few days is that the right the right cleaner?....quote] I tend to use just a squirt of Ecover washing up liquid in a bucket of hot water, then rinse off the suds. Congratulations & glad you are enjoying the wonderful world of chickenkeeping.
