but as I said to "another forum member who I think should enter too"

Can't think who you mean  .

I'll be watching with bated breath to see if you get a place. I will then offer you all the encouragement you need  .

I would be much, much more encouraged if you would enter the ballot too :lol:

It was awful, Alli, he was a 6'3" fit healthy bloke (did a lot of running too) and had a stroke while at the gym. He's been left permanently disabled, unable to walk or speak properly and his sight is affected too :( . He is still mentally able which in some ways makes it worse. He's been in hospital for a year but is hopefully coming home once the house has been adapted. He has 3 boys, the youngest is only 8, the other 2 were in my boys' classes at primary. My friend is just amazing and has coped so well. She's the one I started running with all those years ago.

I'm seeing her tomorrow and am going to ask if I should choose the Stroke Association for sponsorship when I do the G.N.R. She did the Edinburgh Marathon a couple of years ago so perhaps I should go for the London one!

Oh ANH I am so sorry that's so young.

My first husband had a stroke at 56 and it wasn't so massive at first. I ranted and raved so much in A and E because he was just left on a trolley they nearly threw me out. They didn't give him a scan till the next day even though he was at first quite conscious but you could see him deteriorating.....by the next day it was too late to give him any clot busting drugs. He was severely disabled and died mercifully, for him, a month later. I considered taking it further but it wouldn't have brought him back and I had an 11 year old to care for.

I hope your friend improves....miracles do happen.

How sad, OSH, I'm so sorry :( . It seems more common than you think in younger people. In a horrible coincidence, the weekend before this happened to my friend, a colleague of his (female in her 40s) suffered a stroke at work and died :( . They said if he hadn't been such a big bloke and so fit, he definitely would have died.

He was making progress but then a tremor appeared which they can't explain and he hasn't improved since then.

Well done Cathy - sounds like you had a great time!

My running is still curtailed as I have been walking with the dog more. I really must get going as I have the Hook Fun Run coming up two weeks tomorrow - six miles.... :anxious:

jlo, you sound really fit so with a bit of luck your 10k will be a breeze :D I'm just back from a lovely long run with Simon, the lovely Sparky & Daisy. We do stop & start much more than we should but at least that way we all get some exercise. I'm always astonished at how my lovely Sparks keeps going, week after week, mile after mile . He's 14 and as fit & healthy as ever.

Vicki.........only 2 weeks to go :!: how are you feeling :?: I've started using arnica cream on my sore tendons & they're not sore anymore.

Bramble, how are you doing :?: Looking forward to your latest report :!:

I'm doing the Glasgow Womens 10k next Sunday. A really lovely event. Great atmosphere and crowds and even a piper :) Starts & finishes in Bellahouston Park & we run thro' Pollock Estate en route. I just hope to stay injury free & enjoy it. I think it's still open for entries ANH - it would be a good short run before your half. :)

Have a good week, folks. Keep on running.

Alli xx

You've all been doing really well

I finished week 6 on Friday (couldn't post, was at my mum's - no net access :wall: ), that was 25minutes non stop running (well, I say running, it was more crawling, but whatever it was, I kept it up for 25 minutes!) :D

Start week 7 tomorrow, already wondering what I'll do when the podcasts end (end of week 9). There's a 10k podcast I could download from amazon, but wondering if I ought to try and get a bit quicker?

Alli, enjoy the 10k 8) . Glad the tendons are OK :) . I think I'll just hang on for Loch Leven - training going OK although I was so busy gardening today I never did the long run I'd planned to but did manage a 45 min run. I'm off tomorrow so will try a longer one.

Bramble, you are becoming a true runner if you're already planning ahead 8):D . I wouldn't worry too much about speed - just get comfortable doing the distance :) .
