Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

Someone has brought me a new hen . We've called her Poppy.

 

She is 16 weeks, brown and white flecked and so so tame already... she's been in the house this morning for a nosey!

 

I've been told she is a 'light brown' but a light brown what? She was in a run with light sussex so is there a light brown sussex breed? She's supposed to lay approx 300 ?

What a pretty girl! From that photo it looks like she's a Warren (aka bog standard brown hen). She has very pretty markings on her back

Warrens are lovely birds - very friendly, follow you everywhere, very nosey too!

yes i'd agree.. a warren .. we have two they are your bog standard hybrid... most free range farms have them.. the lay around 330 eggs a year once in lay.. they will be as i like to call them supermarket brown... but they are generally quite friendly and as most women nosey....

She could be something along the Amber star/Amber lee line.

Both of mine are coloured & marked very much like your hen & are both lovely girls

There are lighter variations,but I picked both my hens for their wonderful honey coloured feathers.

if she's a warren / gingernut ranger, she'll be a really friendly, inquisitive hen!

my two both slightly different colours but very similar to yours mine are a couple of years old.. picture not very good

I think that there are several names for pretty much the same brown hybrid hen produced for high rates of egg laying.

 

I' ve yet to photograph mine but will post piccys at some point.

Because they are all exactly the same, all different names for the same type of hens, I've also heard them called ISA browns.

yes she is ... this is Dorothy - bit scraggy but very happy

 

think it would be easier if we called them "bown 'uns"

Well, whatever she is she is so cute and I hope she lays as fast as yours have done Sammiboo!! I'm startin to think we're gonna have to wait til at least easter for an egg!
