Lorax
Our speckledy is, thus far, the only one of our chooks to go broody. She did it last year just as the weather changed and she's done it again..do you think this means we are finally going to get some sunny weather? coco
Two of my silkie crosses have been broody for over two weeks now and my third one joined them yesterday. I got fed up with them and have booted them out of the big house into the sin bin where hopefully as none of them are laying they will have no eggs to sit on. They seem to be geting back to normal after 24 hours of seperation but they can stay in there a bit longer. I nicknamed them the witches of eastwick, little madams. chuckmum6
Annoyingly Sage, my young Wyandotte is showing all the signs of being broody, I was hoping for a broody, but a mature mum not some young flipperty jibbet. So it's the slammer for her!
Plum
Seems we all have one. I keep finding a screaming banshee in the nest box and when she's turfed out in the garden she mutters constantly and will take on anyone. She was such a nice shy little wyandotte last week. Hormones eh?
sharon1
I take it Wyandotte's are prone to broodiness. Do Aruacana's and Appenzellers go broody at all by any chance? Hope not. When I lift my little Wyandotte out of the coop she just plants herself on the ground stubbornly and doesn't move until she cools down and then runs back in the coop omitting food and water on route, am quite concerned she doesnt eat/drink enough
migsy
Sounds broody Sharon. If you are concerned you could try dunking her in cold water to get her out of it or you could put her in a dog crate on bricks with food and water for 3 days to enable her to cool down. Seems harsh but I believe it works.
Alis girls
We've got rain today in London - having had sun for days - so now we know who to blame - a little broody speckeldy hen.

Barkisland
My Light Sussex is broody now Mine too - it's been over a week now (Little does she know that nestbox arrangements will be changing this weekend when my new roll away chick boxes arrive )
Mollie333
Two Pekins broody, and on eggs.
migsy
I would love to hatch eggs under my broody but I couldn't deal with any cockerels. What will you do with yours Mollie? I thought about Cream Legbars as you can tell their sex at 1 day old apparently but I couldn't kill a cute fluffy chick.
