Chucky Mama
No no no Plum, not cynics, just worried is all Still couldnt have made it myself Don't worry CW, I am happy to hear the feedback, particularly Space Chick's. Today they used the feeder without it being weighted down - so activated it themselves. My chicken Patricia (posh bird, no brains - also no blue eggs, but that's another story ) fed from the side and was very slow hauling her head out when Lulu popped off. She was fine, I watched them but she was a bit too slow for my liking. So, I have fitted a screen type of affair that blocks off the sides and prevents any feeding from the sides. Lesley
Not wanting to rain on your parade as I couldn't have made one but what happens if Chicken 1 is on the ramp, chicken 2 notices it's open and starts to eat from the side, chicken 1 has enough food, steps off, chicken 2 is eating... The lid closes..... They already do this and the lid closes slowly so they just move their heads out. I tested it by putting my hand in as it closes to make sure there wouldn't be any accidental decapitations and the lid closed very gently. Or.....you could make a much stronger version for those of us who have to dispatch table birds.......what a way to go

Chucky Mama
Each to their own Lewis, each to their own. Personally I would have gone for a mealworm/grape combo but I may feel differently come the day.

Chucky Mama
Have finally got a little bit of footage of the girls using the feeder(not the best but it was more difficult than you think too get a short bit - will try and get some a bit better at some point). It is working very well, they are all now happy using it. No sign of rats and at pigeons I took it out of the run to film but it sits in the run under the cube so they get up and help themselves to brekkie.
