Bramble
Hi, thought I should consult the Omlet consumer panel! I'm desperate to lose weight, but it's one hell of a struggle ... I walk for at least 1 hour every day with my dog and am also doing the "Couch to 5k Running plan" , so I go out "running" three times a week. That plan says I should only run on alternate days so I'm looking for some form of exercise (more than walking) to do on the non-running days. Has anyone got a Wii Fit, or just a Wii with one of the exercise programs? What do you all think? Would you buy again and would you opt for a Wii Fit or just a Wii with an exercise program (my fitness coach or similar, there seem to be loads that don't require the Wii Fit, which makes me wonder if the Wii Fit is really needed)? Sorry for the long post ...
Margaret
Hi Bramble, good luck with the loosing weight plan. I brought a Wii fit about 2 years ago and can honestly say I Never use it, just dust it when cleaning the lounge. I do go to the gym but never rerally enjoyed or could be botherd to use the Wii fit, quite a lot of money as well, others may have a different opinion but didnt work for me. Hope this helps. C&T
I'm impressed! Rather than buying the Wii bits and pieces though, which while I have personally enjoyed, they are a bit disjointed and can be expensive and perhaps not great exercise, and certainly didn't get used for long, why not try 1 or 2 of exercise DVD's? They can be good fun, not as disjointed, and can really get the heart rate going!!
Sam
We've had a Wii fit for a few years, and it rarely gets used. For the first couple of weeks I used it religiously, but really I much prefer going to the gym because it actually feels like you are doing something. I suppose it helps you with your balance, but what good does that do I don't think Wii Fit is anything more than a game! Good luck
HarrisonFamily
I would have to agree ...I do not exercise much but found everything on the wii fit easily....I think the dance games were more energetic... As a game the wii fit is great as an exercise item....not really....
craftyhunnypie
Buying a treadmill, rowing machine or cross trainer might be a better bet. You can do these even when it's pouring with rain or can't make the effort to go out to the gym. I have a Wii.. that too gets forgotten about. Chucky Mama
I wouldn't bother with the Wii Fit, we have it and it is just fun really. If you want something for all round toning and exercise I can recommend EA Sports Active or the second disc More Workouts - if you were to go for only 1 of them I think I would go for the 'More Workouts'. You use fitness bands for some of the exercises, you may need to increase the resistance by shortening the bands. You can use the Wii fit board with it but you don't need to - just set the programme saying whether you have one or not. I really ached after using it at first. I like it as it is good for all body toning - arms included. You see yourself working out on screen.
patsylabrador
I have lost weight, toned up & have pretty good muscles & increased my endurance dramatically using Wii fit plus & Wii 'my fitness coach', ( the first version ). My son has used it as part of training for RAF regiment & was praised for general fitness. I think it works well.
Bramble
Thank you for all your replies, everyone!!! Well, I've ordered a Wii (Amazon have them at the moment with Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort for less than £100, bit of a bargain, me thinks). Decided not to get a Wii Fit for the moment, will give one of the fitness programs a whirl first .... Thank you for all the advice, I knew you'd all know!!! Ain't Nobody Here
Do you have a leisure centre near you that offers Zumba classes? They are usually very informal and open to all ages/shapes/fitness levels. You don't have to know what you're doing (or be able to dance at all!). They can be a good work out and a good laugh . I absolutely love Body Step - I know people who say it's boring but I suspect they remember the old step classes where the instructor made the moves up and it was a bit dull. Body Step is really well choreographed, uses (mostly) great music and is anything but boring .
Bramble
Just an update really ... Completed my first work out with Wii EA Sports Active, I'm absolutely shattered now, much more intense than I thought it would be, so very pleased!!!!!! Chucky Mama
I ached like stink when I first used it and toned up big time. I haven't done it for a few weeks - must get back to it this week.
Bramble
I know - in line skating was AGONY!!!!
Omletina Kyckling
I'd also say the EA Active is the best exercise plan on Wii, although I can no longer do it as it absolutely knackered my knees. My knee joints were pretty rough before I started but it crippled me!!!
Chucky Mama
I agree that it is tough on the knees.
craftyhunnypie
Anyone got the Zumba for Wii? Emma.x
Seagazer
I'd also say the EA Active is the best exercise plan on Wii, although I can no longer do it as it absolutely knackered my knees. My knee joints were pretty rough before I started but it crippled me!!! I've stopped using mine as its making my right damaged knee really ache. My hubby goes with the thought that you have to have pain to gain but if I'm getting back to the stage where its painful walking up and down the stairs then I'll have to look at doing some other form of exercise. I was wondering about a small trampoline to exercise on. Anyone have any thoughts on these?
Bramble
Little one's no good, you need a BIG one so you can bounce around like a lunatic You can always claim it's for people who visit with small children Just done my second workout with sports active -HARD work
chickencam
I must get into a routine of using mine. I got My Fitness Coach over a year ago and have only used it once. YD uses it sometimes, but mainly we use the Wii for watching iplayer
Chucky Mama
Anyone got the Zumba for Wii? Emma.x Yes, I bought it. It arrived yesterday, it was listed for resale on Amazon last night and is now ready to post to it's new owner I am gifted with 0 rhythm and it is just too quick. The tutorials for the steps are not really adequate and whilst I have no doubt it gives you a good workout, I think it is not for the Zumba novice. Probably fine if you have been to a few classes. craftyhunnypie
I like it, but have to agree it is quick. I also have Zumba fitness DVD's - those are much better - thank goodness. Will persevere with the Wii version for a bit longer though. Emma.x
Chucky Mama
I was in 2 minds whether to give it more of a go but I can't dance to save my life. Heaven knows what possessed me to buy it (perhaps I thought it would improve my lack of rhythm ). I couldn't even pick up one of the basis steps in the tutorial which shows how bad I was. DD thought it was hilarious, I think I lost more calories laughing I have ordered My Fitness Coach instead.
Seagazer
I think it is very hard but I just kept on moving (nothing like they were doing really) and by the end my heart was really pounding. That's got to be good for you even if you do look silly doing it.
chickencam
Doesn't sound like it would be a good idea for me then, I too have zero rhythm
patsylabrador
I have just got My Fitness Coach, Cardio workout. It's based on boxing moves, shape boxing and although the reviews are very good, I wasn't sure. Two days later and I am very sure. Muscles are aching that I didn't know existed, from my shoulders to my feet. It is a really good workout and also good fun. I usually give up on cardio routines out of boredom. It's a wii game and the board is not necessary. The graphics are basic but as I didn't get it for good graphics that's ok. I'm giving it a miss today to rest the muscles but I can't wait to use it again so that must be good.
