beach chick
our WIR was finished last sept/oct, and I put down 2 bags of aubiose - thought it was a bit overfull, but there you go... removed it all a couple of months ago - so maybe 5 months in use? never poo-picked, run got wet during the winter, chucked some stalosan round occasionally, still looked clean, didnt smell etc. replaced it with easibed (what I could buy at the time). after just 2 months, with reasonably regular (once-twice a week) poo-picking, I have had to replace the lot as there seem to be loads more mess/flies (could be the hot weather we have had). didnt have enough easibed, so have topped up with an extra bag of bed max, which again was all I could get. I am not liking bedmax, it's too big and shaving-y and cant see it having the same qualities as aubiose. am I just being s"Ooops, word censored!"by, or is aubiose really the best? Redwing
I've tried most of the beddings on the market I think A lot of it depends on where it is used, I prefer certain beddings over others in certain situations and set ups I do like Bedmax though, my current favourite is Plospan which is a very absorbant shaving, its fab stuff Aubiose is certainly one of the best but I've stopped using it as its a lot more loosely packed than it used to be and I was feeling a bit ripped off by that
Ain't Nobody Here
I can only get Easibed (or Hemcore at vast cost ) and have always been really happy with it. No smells or flies at all .

No smells or flies at all . do you poo pick ANH? what surprised me is that the girls are really only in the WIR between waking and me letting them out to FR, which is anywhere between 7 and 8.30 (if I'm VERY lucky). obviously they go in and out to feed/drink, but they spend most of their time outdoors. Egluntyne
I'm an Aubiose fan. I've been mixing it with wood pellet cat litter recently and find that the perfect mix. A tad expensive but it lasts for ever, and dries out super fast if it gets dampened by rain.
Ain't Nobody Here
do you poo pick ANH? I used to religiously pick up everything each morning but to be honest, now I hardly do it at all. Where they sleep, all the poo falls down to the floor and as the weather is relatively dry now, it seems to dry up really quickly. It helps too that they FR every day as YS is on study leave! I dont mind it being expensive to buy if it lasts, but having to replace the easibed after just 2 months seems a false economy to me (not to mention the work involved!) chestnutmare
The best bedding I have used for the horses (and then use that for the chickens too) is Rapport. It's the most absorbent bedding I've used (and I've tried lots of types of bedding) and smells good too. http://www.hemcore.co.uk/rapport.php
Cinnamon
Aubiose every time here
Bramble
I can't get Aubiose either, the only bedding I've tried (apart from woodshavings etc) is Rapasorb (similar I would guess to Chestnutmare's Rapport) It's chopped rape straw and seems to work perfectly - I can get it easily, it's less than £8 a bag and I've never felt the need to try anything else! Eggasperated
I've been using Auboise in my Solway for ages but have always been concerned about the girls liking to eat it. Decided I would give Rapport a try this time hoping the larger size bits would make it less palatable, also cheaper but I don't know how long the bag will last to make a fair comparison. My only worry is that it is co"Ooops, word censored!"r and as I am using it in the nest boxes I hope it is comfortable enough for them, (probably bit of a soft chicken mum ). chestnutmare
I have found Rapport to be softer than a lot of ordinary wood shavings. I don't find it hard - I pick up a handful of the stuff every morning for the girls' nesting box. I think it rots down quite well. Better than that useless Bedmax we had (large shavings) but the difference in my muck heap might be because I use less of Rapport than other bedding... it's meant to rot quickly anyway. It's well worth a try.
tania
Without a doubt the best. The old adage "you get what you pay for" is so true.
coco
Like chestnut Mare I use Rapport. Auboise went up in price but the pack was smaller so I swopped to Rapport, the girls are fine with it and it lasts for ages.
Chucky Mama
I've been using Auboise in my Solway for ages but have always been concerned about the girls liking to eat it. I only use it in my nesting box and my girls like to eat it too I don't think I am going to get any more once I have used this bale. It is very practical etc but not keen on the eating of it. I'll go back to shredded paper.
snowberry
I've just bought some easibed as I can't get aubiose down here at all.
juliidale8
Auboise is great stuff, our local pet supplies shop sells it at £7.00 for 20kg and it lasts for ages. My chickens didn't like walking on it at first and were very hesitant but eventually got used to it.
beach chick
I'll go back to shredded paper. I'm not getting on with shredded paper at all, it just seems so messy! and if one chook walks a strand or two out of the cube, it blows everywhere. but it's free, which is good...
