Unsecure chicken perches

I've just had a call from a chap saying he is from Bosch/Siemans Home Appliances and that there is a recall on faulty components of Bosch/Seimans and Neff dishwashers made between 1999 and 2005 as they have caused house fires.

 

We checked the serial number and ours is one that needs the part replacing, and just as he was about to book me a visit from an engineer he said that the system wouldn't let him, and as long as he can confirm our contact details, we will get a call back to arrange this visit soon. I was a little suspicious.

 

 

I asked if there are any special instructions with regard the dishwasher until it is fixed.

 

"No ", he says,' just don't use it. "

 

" So how long before I can book and expect a visit from an engineer ?"

 

"maybe 2 weeks."

 

"Thats a long time not using the dishwasher,"

 

"well if you must use it don't do it at night or if you go out?

 

I have visited this website http://www.repairaction.co.uk// or http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/advice/advice-recall-item.cfm?id=273313 which they told me has all the information. There is a list of the numbers of the machines affected and how to check if yours is one of those.

 

This recall apparently started at the beginning of July but I had not heard of it, has anyone? and is your dishwasher fixed?, how long did you have to wait for an engineer?.....

I had a letter, and mine is one of the affected ones. It isn't all that old either, maybe 4 years Someone is coming to repair it FOC on Wednesday.

DH has just checked and ours is one that needs a repair. Done it on-line and they'll be coming out on Thursday 4th August. Have you tried booking an appointment on line?

Not heard of it til you posted. Ours is a FOC repair.

Good to hear that my post has helped you stay safe Chicvic, and yes I have tried to book online but maybe there is too much demand in my area or not enough engineers.

 

Interesting that you had a letter Eglutyne, I guess whoever is managing the recall is using all avenues to contact people though apparently not the main media channels ie tv, radio and newpapers ?

Yes I had a letter as well, used the website to put in my serial number but luckily mine is not affected

Thanks for the heads up. I checked our Bosch - which is 11 years old and it's one of the ones affected. Have arranged online for a call out visit on Thursday.

I couldn't remember what make mine was I use the thing every day! Anhyhoo, it is a Bosh, but not one of the dangerous ones *phew* Thanks for the warning though

Have phoned up today and I've been given an appointment for 19th August, good job we don't use it very often. Thanks for telling us because I wouldn't have known otherwise.

Thank you for that one - mine is not affected thankfully but worth checking. My original Zanussi one years ago was a fire hazard and they replaced the wiring for nothing at that time which was really good.

So pleased to hear that those of you who also hadn't heard about the component recall on these dishwashers have checked and either not had to worry or have made appointments and even had them fixed very quickly...

 

Sadly though, a week on from my alert phone-call from Bosch/Siemans Home Appliances I still have no appointment made as they are still looking for an engineers in our area....
