Had to leave chicken at the vets!!! UPDATE Yipeeeeeee

Recommended Posts

my little Dotty is poorly :( I took her to the vets tonight and he massaged her abdomen and a load of gunge and a rock hard mini egg with not shell came out  he asked me to leave her and he is going to xray and have a good look at her overnight. She has been a bit blue for a couple of days and she always has a dirty bum, but she still wanted to free range and have treats etc and now I wish I had taken her sooner! I really hope she is going to be ok, she has been through so much with the broken beak incident earlier in the year and I have a really soft spot for her. Fingers crossed she will be ok

I called the vets and Dotty has to stay in again tonight and possible tomorrow. The vet x-rayed her and he cannot find a blockage or a broken egg but said that her uterus is extremely swollen and they are giving her antibiotics and fluids to try and help. The vet is off today but the receptionist said that they just need to keep an eye on her and see how the treatment works and the vet will call me tomorrow with more info. Has anyone ever had a similar problem? I am very worried about her :anxious: Bless her she has had so many troubles in her short life.

Well I have just called the vets surgery and the receptionist said that the vet is going to call me back and she said not to worry and that Dotty is fine. I am hoping that means I can bring her home today and I am now worried about introducing her back to the gang. Will they remember her? or should I keep her seperated but in view for a couple of days? she is bottom of the pecking order and I am concerned that she may be bullied :( any advice would be gratefully received

Good news!! Dotty can come home tomorrow :D . The vet is very pleased with her and said I can pick her up in the morning. I am so relieved! Im still not sure yet what the problem was but am very happy she seems to be ok. Just the problem of how to reintroduce her to the gang now. Any tips??

That is good news! I wouldn't have thought that there'd would be too many problems reintroducing her, I've never had a problem putting back a girl who has been separated for a couple of days. You could always put her next to the others in a separate little run until bedtime, then put her to bed with them once they have settled down.

Picked Dotty up this morning :D and the vet showed me her x-ray and her womb is enlarged and he thinks she has an infection. I have some Baytril for her and have to phone on Monday and report back how she is doing. if she doesnt come back into lay within a week or so we may have to look at her again and make sure nothing else is going on. I am pleased she is home but not looking forward to administering the antibiotic, she is so flighty!!

I put her straight back in with the gang when we got home and distracted them with meal worms and it all went ok. I then let them free range all together for an hour and if anything I think Dotty has come back a bit bossy. She is normally at the bottom of the pecking order and today she was bossing around the others, so I don't know whats going on there!!

Thanks for all your good wishes and I will keep you posted on her progress :D
