Cover for the run door end of a cube ?

Recommended Posts

I've been really pleased with my cube run cover up till now for keeping things dry (& lets face it, its been kind of wet of late !!) but today the rain must have been going in the opposite direction, as the run was a mudbath when I got up this morning. So I'm looking for ideas of how to cover the run end but obviously being able to open the run door too.

Anyone got any solutions ?

Glass tarps sound like a good idea to roll up.

If not, what about clear corrugated plastic?

Its really easy to cut with a stanley knife to any shape/size you want, and then just attach to the run by piercing holes in it and using cable ties. I put it all the way around my WIR and just cut around the 2 doors so they still open.

Not the best photo but can see what I mean here...

lewis, that is exactly what we are planning to do to weatherproof our WIR this autumn! can I just ask, do you find the plastic stuff is quite strong? only we are pretty exposed here, and last winter I found the tarpaflex just flapped about (despite bungee maze) and then ripped itself to shreds... I was also planning to do ours pretty much floor to ceiling as well but can see you've only done the bottom half - any reason for that? thks

It is quite strong, it won't rip, just bends so should be ok in the wind :)

I only covered the bottom bit to keep Aubiose in, and any rain + mud splashing up not into the run - gives them a bit of protection from the wind too. The back is now covered in bargain army tarps 'cos rain used to blow in off the back and drip in off the roof.

(Old photo just when I put the tarps up, sorry its dirty in there too!)

We also have the same length of plastic sheets running along the back, along the top of the army tarps so rain runs off the roof and onto the floor, instead of down the tarp and into the run.

the back of ours is the only sheltered bit because there's a thick hawthorn hedge there, so we'll have to do the other 3 sides. wonder if we can get away with only half height? not sure, I think perhaps it's too exposed. I'm not that bothered about loss of light because they FR in the electric fence zone all day anyway.
