Silvermorgan Moon
Anyone have any idea why my hen would have one eye shut? No other symptoms apart from being a bit lethargic and off colour, sitting around a bit more than usual. Would really appreciate any advice from anyone Thanks

Lewis
Have you had a look at her to see if there is anything that could have got in it, maybe Aubiose? Is it crusty or bubbly at all?
Sal119
One of my chooks had an eye infection which started off like this, eye closed, sitting around and eventually not eating much. It worked out she'd got an ulcerated eye and had many trips to the vets. If she's no better and the eye doesn't open, I'd try bathing it and perhaps a trip to the vets. Silvermorgan Moon
Thanks for the thoughts all. On sunday my hen seemed to be back to normal, eye open, looking normal and out and about with the others. This morning I have noticed the eye is now looking opaque. It looks to me like she has gone blind in that eye There was never any sign of soreness or injury, I think I will take her to the vets as soon as I can. Worried the other eye will go the same way
Chucky Mama
It sound like she may have injured the eye that untreated has left the cornea scarred. It is a good idea to get sore eyes checked out early as they are painful - we all know how irritating it is to get a little grit or an eyelash in an eye. Untreated they can cause permanent damage or infection deeper into the eye that can result is the eye bursting (sorry ) or scarring. If a little cold tea bathing (no milk) doesn't improve things over 24 hours, I would advise a trip to a vet.
