I'm getting ex battery hens!

Recommended Posts

.... On Saturday! :D

Really excited, these will be my first ex battery hens, so just wondering if they need any extras? I have layers mash ready a long with new drinkers and feeders, been told by the hen rescue to take the perches out for a week or so, they have a spacious coop and a 4m x 2m run, but will get to free range all the time when I'm in.

Any name suggestions for them? Maybe a theme.

I can't wait!!

Hooray!!! I had three ex-batts last year and picked up another three last Saturday, they are ace 8)

I think for them, being in even quite a small coop is just like free ranging, they are not used to having any space at all, so they'll enjoy just being in the coop for a while!

One of mine escaped yesterday, so had a bit of unscheduled FR time, but she was fine with that!

I'm very worried about intros to my existing girls, but that's a bridge to cross when we get there, I don't think anyone's ready for that yet!

Just a few days in, mine are already scratching about in the grass, and are fascinated by their leg rings!

Enjoy them!

I got 7 ex batts last May

Raquel ,Mavis, Betty, Hilda, Rita, Blanche & Vera. Sadly only 4 left and not had any eggs from 3 of them this year  . They are collectivly known as The Ginger Ninja or the Freeloading Pensioners.

I was looking at some photos from when I first got them and its great to see how they have all changed.

Good Luck

I've only ever owned ex-batts and it's always lovely to to hear of more of them going to good homes :D It never fails to amaze me just how fast they become spoiled demanding little madams

My first batch were named by niece and nephews - not a good idea. Batch 2 were things they'd not seen before - Sun, Moon, Sky. Christmas rescue had to have christmassey names - Holly, Berry and Mistletoe. Currently using girls names from songs - Alice and Angel. I now have a list of names with themes such as precious metals, gemstones, flowers, trees, aunties (!), goddesses ...

How many lucky little girls are coming your way?
