Bessie is moulting!

Recommended Posts

Bessie hasn't laid any eggs this week. She normally lays a medium sized light brown egg. On Sunday she laid a very very white egg :o and she hasn't laid any since :( She seems fine in herself, eating, drinking etc, although I have noticed her sitting quite a lot - in the run mainly - and I have also noticed that she sits in the nest box at times. A couple of times I have come home from work and found her sitting in the nest box, sitting on one of Betty's eggs. I don't know if Betty has just laid these eggs, but they have been warm when I have removed them.

So, I'm wondering, does this mean she is broody :?: oe has she stopped laying because of the shorter days :?: Why did she lay a white egg :!:

I did wonder about worms, but I last wormed them in mid-July. Would it be safe to worm them now anyway just in case?

Any advice or ideas would be very much appreciated :anxious:

She could be thinking about moulting? Pebbles started like yours and now she's resembling a BHWT chook with a bald head and a bum with a lone tail feather sticking up like a banner. (Hilarious as she still thinks she's the best looking chick in the coop.)

Well done daxigirl - you were right 8) I started to notice feathers appearing in the run on Monday; yesterday there were more and today - feathers all over the blinking place :!: Every time she moves, more feathers :!: I pick her up - more feathers :!:

This will be her first moult. How long should it last :?: When is she likely to start laying again :?: Should I be giving her any supplements, special diet or anything during and after the moult :?: So many questions I know, but I have to say I'm soooo impressed at how clever you Omlet people are :!:

This chicken keeping is so interesting :!: Luckily Betty is still laying, but I suppose I have to expect her to do the same at some point :)
