The Dogmother
Those of you who know me well will already be laughing as I just don't do dressing up.... We are going to a friend's birthday party in 3 week's time, the theme is 'anything beginning with an S' (her name starts with an S). Hiring things is no good for me as they never seem to fit, but I have a red flamenco style dress so have decided to go as a Spanish dancer. I've bought a red rose for my hair and have the shoes, but will need a fine black lace shawl or similar and a fan or castanets. Any help/ideas would be gratefully received and I'm more than happy to cover postage if necessary.

The Dogmother
You know me too well Lucy Even funnier is that The Boy initially suggested that i go as a Showgirl.... The Look soon killed off that idea; while I happily dressed up to go to Rocky Horror 25 years ago, I'm not about to go scampering about in a corset nowadays! snowberry
I've got some Spanish omlette in my freezer if you'd like that?
The Dogmother
*snorts* See, I knew that you lot would cheer me up about this; I loathe dressing up
Lavenders_Blue
I think I have a shawl that may be the sort of thing you are after. The only problem is, I don't for the life of me know where it is. I will have a dig round later and see if I can find it.
Cinnamon
Spanish dancer,eh? More like Saucy Senorita! I do have a lovely pure silk fringed shawl you are welcome to - its in purples & greens, but nothing lace.
The Dogmother
Thanks chaps all ideas welcome. Sarah, do you think it would go with a deep red dress? All 'donations' will be returned in pristine condition of course I have to admit that I went into a flat spin when I heard that the party was to be fancy dress; it had been a very busy day and my mind was totally numb. I emailed a creative-minded friend and she came back with a massive list of ideas the Spanish dancer immediately appealed as I have the dress already, plus the shoes and black fishnets. In the old days (pre-Rosie) I used to have the time to make things I shall post photos
Cinnamon
Well,it would, but it may be a bit more Gypsy Rose Lee than Saucy Senorita, that's my only concern. It had long real green fringing...I had it on eBay a while ago,so can email you a photo tomorrow.
Snowy
I think mine has gone into the loft - I have a black lace shawl somewhere
moochoo
I've got a black feather fan you're welcome to borrow. Not sure if it's Spanish enough but better than nothing! Just tittering at the thought of you in fancy dress......show girl, really?
The Dogmother
Ooo, those sound great Sarah, any chance I could borrow the fan? I could collect it when we meet at Peterborough. Nearly there! No Sarah, I WILL NOT be dressing as a showgirl... apart from anything it would mean me buying stuff and I'd rather not go to the party than spend loads on an outfit I'll never use again. Chook n Boo Mum
At least it isn't a pink party Clare, now that would have prompted a flat spin Have a fantastic time hunny
The Dogmother
I'm afraid that pink would have meant a flat 'NO' as a response. The friend in question is rather pink and sparkly too
Omletina Kyckling
Of course we will require photographs to prove it!! I'm going to a party on Saturday, it's a 70th of one of dads old friends and you have to go in 40s style. I'm dreading it as won't be able to hide under my usual drapey arty tops!! Lavenders_Blue
Ah glad to hear it. I did look for mine, but couldn't find it anywhere. I was going to go into the garage tomorrow to see if it was in one of the storage boxes there but Snowy has saved me the trouble! Enjoy the party! moochoo
Ooo, those sound great Sarah, any chance I could borrow the fan? I could collect it when we meet at Peterborough. Nearly there! Yes no probs. Remind me before the end of the week. I'll add it to the overnight bag and the 30 tonnes of dog stuff!

craftyhunnypie
You could have gone as a slap per. Not being offensive here, really not, but it would have been fun. Bit of leopardskin print, stillettos, red lippy. Think of Patsy in Absolutely Fabulous & it would have looked good. Begins with 'S'. Mods, please don't tell me off - I'm not being naughty here. It's what I might have gone as if I'd had the invite. Emma.x

The Dogmother
Well, we went to the party on Saturday night and with help from Moochoo (lovely feathered fan) and Snowy (black lacy shawl) I had an outfit. Phil joined in the theme and dressed up as a Señor so he only had to wear his work suit and a cummerbund and hat. Great party and we had a fab time trying to guess what folks were dressed as. Photos as promised: Excuse the sewing machine - Rosie took the photos and I'd forgotten it was there!
